FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR ALASKA
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ANCHORAGE AK
650 AM AKDT TUE JUN 30 2015

.DISCUSSION...

RELATIVE HUMIDITIES WILL REMAIN HIGH ENOUGH AND WINDS LIGHT ENOUGH
THAT NO CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONCERNS ARE EXPECTED THROUGH WEDNESDAY. AN
UPPER LEVEL LOW SOUTH OF KODIAK ISLAND WILL ROTATE A FEW UPPER
LEVEL DISTURBANCES ACROSS SOUTHWEST ALASKA THE NEXT COUPLE OF
DAYS AND BRING SHOWERS AND DIURNAL THUNDERSTORMS TO THE REGION.
THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY TODAY SHOULD BE SIMILAR TO WHAT WAS SEEN
YESTERDAY WITH THE MAJORITY OF LIGHTNING STRIKES CONFINED TO THE
MOUNTAINOUS TERRAIN. THE MOST LIKELY LOCATIONS TO SEE A THUNDERSTORM
TODAY WILL BE THE ALASKA RANGE THE AHKLUN MOUNTAINS AND THE
KILBUCK MOUNTAINS. THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY LOOKS TO DIMINISH ON
WEDNESDAY AS THE THERMAL TROUGH WEAKENS AND HIGH PRESSURE TRIES TO
SITUATE OVER THE REGION. THIS WILL LEAD TO A MUCH MORE STABLE AIR
MASS THAT WILL KEEP INSTABILITY ON THE LOW SIDE.
