FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR CENTRAL/NORTHERN VERMONT AND
NORTHERN NEW YORK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BURLINGTON VT
525 AM EDT SUN MAY 24 2015

...GUSTY WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITIES AGAIN TODAY BEFORE IMPROVING
CONDITIONS FROM MONDAY ONWARD...

.DISCUSSION...
HIGH PRESSURE WILL GENERALLY CONTROL REGIONAL WEATHER
CONDITIONS TODAY WITH A CONTINUED MODERATION IN TEMPERATURES
EXPECTED. A STRONG WARM FRONT WILL PUSH THROUGH THE REGION ON MONDAY
INTO MONDAY NIGHT WITH PERIODS OF SHOWERS AND PERHAPS A FEW
THUNDERSTORMS. BEHIND THIS FRONT, WARM SUMMERLIKE WEATHER WITH DAILY
CHANCES OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS IS EXPECTED FROM TUESDAY ONWARD
INTO LATE WEEK. IN THE NEAR TERM (TODAY) FINE DEAD FUELS SUCH AS
LEAVES AND GRASS REMAIN VERY DRY ACROSS MOST OF THE REGION IN THE NEAR
TERM, AND WITH LOWER THAN AVERAGE PRECIPITATION OVER THE PAST FEW WEEKS
CONDITIONS REMAIN FAVORABLE FOR THESE FUELS TO BURN QUICKLY SHOULD ANY
FIRES START. LOW AFTERNOON RELATIVE HUMIDITY (25 TO 35%) ALONG WITH
GUSTY WEST TO SOUTHWESTERLY WINDS FROM 20 TO 30 MPH WILL EXACERBATE THESE
CONDITIONS TODAY. THUS ANY FIRES THAT DO START TODAY WILL HAVE THE
POTENTIAL TO SPREAD QUICKLY...BURN INTENSELY AND BECOME DIFFICULT
TO CONTAIN. PERSONS PLANNING OUTDOOR BURNING OF BRUSH OR OTHER
MATERIAL TODAY SHOULD DO SO WITH CAUTION. CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO
IMPROVE BY TOMORROW.
