Fire Weather Planning Forecast for NW Oregon and SW Washington
National Weather Service Portland OR
912 AM PDT Fri Jul 21 2017

...Dry and Breezy in the Central Columbia Gorge Today and
Saturday...
...Thunderstorms Central Cascades Sunday...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...Much warmer temperatures today and
especially Saturday. Driest day will be today as a moderate
marine push occurs Saturday. Breezy winds today as well in the
central Gorge. Thunderstorms Sunday and Monday over the Cascades
south of Mt. Jefferson with little rain but probably not much
lightning either.

.DISCUSSION...Expect a few degrees of warming Today followed by
additional warming Saturday. The upper low off the northern
California coast is now less likely to push this far north but the
overall conditions still favor some thunderstorm threat for the
central Cascades Sunday and at least Monday. Current conditions
do not favor particularly strong storms with very little storm
motion expected. This typically results in very short lived cells
which only produce a few cloud to ground strikes. Monday storms
will trend toward producing more rain but also trend toward
forming closer to the crest or on the east side. An upper trough
slides across Southern British Columbia around the middle of next,
which will maintain an onshore flow pattern. /JBonk
