FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NW OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
315 PM PDT MON JUL 21 2014

...WETTING RAINS POSSIBLE ESPECIALLY NORTH BY MIDWEEK...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...A STALLED FRONTAL ZONE IS DRAPED ACROSS OREGON
THIS AFTERNOON...BRINGING A FEW SPRINKLES TO AREAS LANE COUNTY SOUTH. THIS
FRONTAL ZONE MAY DRIFT BACK NORTHWEST AND PRODUCE MORE RAIN TONIGHT AND
TUESDAY. THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY REMAINS WELL SOUTH AND EAST OF OUR DISTRICT
AND SHOULD REMAIN SO THROUGH TUESDAY. MUCH COOLER AND SHOWERY WEATHER IS
ON TAP FOR WEDNESDAY...WITH ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE.

.DISCUSSION...A STALLED FRONTAL ZONE EXTENDS FROM NORTH CENTRAL OREGON TO
THE SOUTHERN OREGON COAST. THIS FRONT IS WEAK FOR THE TIME BEING...ONLY
PRODUCING A FEW SPRINKLES FOR AREAS LANE COUNTY SOUTH. THIS FRONT IS
EXPECTED TO DRIFT BACK NORTHWEST A BIT OVERNIGHT AND INTO TUESDAY...AND
MAY STRENGTHEN ENOUGH TO PRODUCE SOME AREAS OF STEADY RAIN. MORE UNSTABLE
AIR LIES TO THE SOUTHEAST OF THE FRONT...BUT THUNDERSTORMS THIS AFTERNOON
HAVE BEEN CONFINED TO NORTHEAST CALIFORNIA AND SOUTHEAST OREGON. INSTABILITY
AND THUNDER MAY GET CLOSER TO THE WILLAMETTE NF TUESDAY...BUT THERE IS ONLY
A SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDER ALONG AND WEST OF THE CREST. A MORE SIGNIFICANT
SYSTEM COMES IN FROM THE GULF OF ALASKA TUESDAY NIGHT AND WEDNESDAY. THIS
SPRINGLIKE SYSTEM WILL BRING A BETTER CHANCE FOR SHOWERS AND POSSIBLY A
STRAY BUT VERY WET THUNDERSTORM OR TWO. TEMPERATURES WEDNESDAY MAY STRUGGLE
TO REACH 70 DEGREES FOR THE INLAND VALLEYS...SOME 10 TO 15 DEGREES BELOW
NORMAL. HOWEVER A QUICK REBOUND TO NEAR TO ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES IS
EXPECTED BY THE WEEKEND. WEAGLE
