FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NW OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
917 AM PDT FRI JUL 11 2014

...THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE THROUGH THIS WEEKEND...
...INCREASINGLY HOT BUT HUMID WEATHER WELL INTO NEXT WEEK...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE
MOVING NORTHWARD ACROSS THE CALIFORNIA/OREGON BORDER THIS MORNING.
THESE WILL CONTINUE TO SPREAD NORTHWARD AS THE DAY PROGRESSES...
LIKELY ENTERING LANE COUNTY BY AFTERNOON AND ACROSS MUCH OF THE
DISTRICT THIS EVENING. THE CLOUD SHIELD WILL LIKELY KEEP TEMPERATURES
SEASONABLE IN OUR SOUTHERN ZONES...BUT THE NORTHERN HALF OF THE
DISTRICT WILL BE HOT DUE TO THE GREATER AMOUNT OF SUNSHINE. AN EVEN
BETTER CHANCE FOR THUNDER IS LIKELY FOR SUNDAY.

.DISCUSSION...ONSHORE FLOW IS WEAKENING TODAY AS HIGH PRESSURE BREAKS
DOWN OFFSHORE. A DISTURBANCE LIFTING NORTHWARD FROM CALIFORNIA IS
SPREADING SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS NORTHWARD...WHICH WILL
LIKELY REACH LANE COUNTY BY THIS AFTERNOON. THE CLOUD COVER SHOULD
HOLD TEMPERATURES DOWN A BIT FOR LANE COUNTY...BUT AREAS NORTH WILL
SEE PLENTY OF SUNSHINE AND TEMPERATURES SEVERAL DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL.
ADDITIONALLY...ANOTHER SUBSIDENCE INVERSION RESULTED IN A BRIEF
PERIOD OF VERY LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY IN THE HIGH CASCADE PEAKS AND
RIDGES THIS MORNING...BUT JUST LIKE YESTERDAY RH SHOULD INCREASE AS
MIXING IMPROVES. ANY THUNDERSTORMS MAY INITIALLY BE DRY BUT MOISTURE
WILL BE INCREASING AS A GREATER MONSOON INFLUENCE ENTERS THE REGION.
HOT...BUT MOIST AND UNSTABLE CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE
WEEKEND. WITH THE LACK OF A TRIGGER...EXPECT CUMULUS BUILDUPS AND
ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS TO BE CONFINED TO THE CASCADES SATURDAY.
HOWEVER A MORE SIGNIFICANT UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE WILL BRING A
MORE WIDESPREAD CHANCE FOR THUNDERSTORMS...SOME STRONG...SPREADING
FROM SOUTH TO NORTH SUNDAY. THE GOOD NEWS FIRE WEATHER-WISE IS THAT
THESE STORMS WILL PROBABLY HAVE A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF TROPICAL
MOISTURE ASSOCIATED WITH THEM...AND THERE IS A GOOD CHANCE OF WETTING
RAINS WITH ANY STORMS SUNDAY. HOT AND HUMID CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED
TO CONTINUE INTO NEXT WEEK...THOUGH AN UPPER LEVEL RIDGE WILL LIKELY
CAP THE POTENTIAL FOR THUNDER. WEAGLE
