FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NW OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
319 PM PDT THU MAY 28 2015

...ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES EXPECTED THROUGH SATURDAY...
...COOLER WITH SHOWERS EXPECTED EARLY NEXT WEEK...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...A WEAK UPPER LEVEL RIDGE WILL LEAD TO WARM
AND DRY CONDITIONS FOR MOST OF THE DISTRICT THROUGH SATURDAY. A
SHALLOWER MARINE LAYER SHOULD LIMIT THE EXTENT OF LOW CLOUDS EACH
MORNING. THIS WILL RESULT IN ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES FOR MUCH OF
THE DISTRICT THROUGH SATURDAY. EXPECT INSTABILITY TO INCREASE AS
TEMPERATURES WARM UP...WITH CUMULUS BUILDUPS EACH AFTERNOON ON THE
CASCADE CREST. COOLER...SHOWERY WEATHER IS EXPECTED TO RETURN
EARLY NEXT WEEK.

.DISCUSSION...AN UPPER LEVEL RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE HAS BUILT IN
ACROSS THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST...COMPRESSING THE MARINE LAYER AND
LIMITING THE COOLING MARINE INFLUENCE TO THE COAST AND NEARBY
COASTAL VALLEYS. THE RESULT WILL BE SUMMER-LIKE TEMPERATURES EAST
OF THE COAST RANGE...WITH TEMPERATURES PUSHING INTO THE 80S FOR
THE INLAND VALLEYS AND GENERALLY 70S FOR THE HIGHER TERRAIN. WEAK
ONSHORE PRESSURE GRADIENTS WILL PERSIST...WITH TERRAIN DRIVEN
WINDS GENERALLY BECOMING WEST TO NORTHWESTERLY DURING THE LATE
AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING HOURS. ONLY MINOR VARIATIONS FROM THIS
PATTERN ARE EXPECTED THROUGH SATURDAY...TEMPERATURES MAY BE
SLIGHTLY COOLER SATURDAY DUE TO INCREASING HIGH CLOUD COVER. THAT
SAID...A SUBSIDENCE INVERSION IS POSSIBLE SATURDAY WHICH COULD
LEAD TO VERY DRY CONDITIONS FOR THE HIGHER SLOPES OF THE COAST
RANGE AND CASCADES...WITH SOMEWHAT POOR RECOVERIES POSSIBLE
SATURDAY NIGHT. EXPECT A THERMAL TROUGH TO DEVELOP ALONG THE
WILLAMETTE VALLEY THE NEXT COUPLE DAYS...ADDING A BIT OF
INSTABILITY TO THE LOWER LEVELS OF THE ATMOSPHERE THROUGH
SATURDAY. ADDITIONALLY...JUST ENOUGH INSTABILITY WILL OCCUR EACH
AFTERNOON FOR SOME CUMULUS BUILDUPS ALONG THE CASCADE CREST...WITH
A VERY SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDER ALONG THE CREST EACH AFTERNOON
THROUGH SATURDAY. LOW PRESSURE IS EXPECTED TO APPROACH FROM THE
SOUTHWEST SUNDAY OR MONDAY...INCREASING THE CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS ESPECIALLY IN THE CASCADES. WEAGLE
