LINE WIND EVENT...

.UPDATE...NWS PERSONNEL HAVE FOUND EVIDENCE OF A SECOND TORNADO
TOUCHDOWN IN EASTERN DAY COUNTY NEAR GRENVILLE SOUTH DAKOTA.

SURVEY_SUMMARY: AN NWS STORM SURVEY TEAM CONFIRMED THAT A SECOND TORNADO
BRIEFLY TOUCHED DOWN SOUTHEAST OF GRENVILLE SOUTH DAKOTA. THERE WAS
CLEAR EVIDENCE OF TREE DAMAGE IN A SHELTERBELT ALONG TOWNSHIP ROAD
1C WHERE BRANCHES WERE LAYING TOWARDS THE WEST/NORTHWEST. IN THE
CORNFIELD ACROSS THE ROAD...THE CORN WAS LAYING DOWN TOWARDS THE
EAST/SOUTHEAST WITH A SECOND SHELTERBELT ALSO SUSTAINING TREE DAMAGE
ORIENTED SOUTHEAST.  NEAR THE END OF THE TORNADO PATH MORE SIGNIFICANT
DAMAGE WAS NOTED TO A RESIDENCE. HERE...A HORSE TRAILER WAS ROLLED...A
BARN SUFFERED SIGNIFICANT ROOF DAMAGE...AND NUMEROUS BRANCHES WERE
DOWN. THIS DAMAGE WAS ASSESSED THROUGH PHOTOS...AS MUCH OF THE CLEAN-UP
WAS ALREADY COMPLETED.

SURVEY_SUMMARY: THERE WERE EYEWITNESS ACCOUNTS OF THE TORNADO AS
IT BRIEFLY TOUCHED DOWN ABOUT THREE AND A HALF MILES EAST
NORTHEAST OF LANGFORD SOUTH DAKOTA. THE INITIAL DAMAGE WAS NOTED
IN A CORNFIELD NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF SD HIGHWAY 27 AND 122ND
ST. ADDITIONAL DAMAGE WAS NOTED ABOUT ANOTHER HALF MILE TO THE
EAST NORTHEAST. SEVERAL HAY BALES WERE MOVED. NO OTHER DAMAGE WAS
NOTED BEYOND THAT POINT.

TORNADOES INTO THE FOLLOWING CATEGORIES.

SURVEY_SUMMARY: AT THE FAR NORTHWEST EDGE OF BRISTOL...STRAIGHT
LINE WINDS DENTED A GRAIN BIN AND CAUSED THE STRUCTURE TO BUCKLE
PULLING ONE EDGE OUT FROM THE GROUND SUPPORTS. THERE WAS ALSO
MODERATE DAMAGE TO A GAS STATION ROOF CANOPY. EVIDENCE OF LARGE
HAIL AS CORN CROP WAS COMPLETELY STRIPPED.

LAKE LODGE CAMPGROUND IN DAY COUNTY SOUTH DAKOTA...

SURVEY_SUMMARY: DAMAGE WAS FIRST NOTED IN THE TOWN OF WAUBAY WITH
SEVERAL LARGE TREES AND TREE LIMBS BROKEN. HOWEVER...MORE SIGNIFICANT
DAMAGE WAS APPARENT SOUTH SOUTHEAST OF WAUBAY AT THE BITTER LAKE LODGE
CAMPGROUND WHICH IS NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF SD COUNTY ROAD 1 AND
143RD ST. AT THIS LOCATION SEVERAL CAMPERS WERE ROLLED AND
COMPLETELY DESTROYED...COMING TO REST ABOUT 30 YARDS FROM THE
ORIGINAL LOCATION. ALL INDIVIDUALS AT THE SITE WERE ABLE TO REACH
SHELTER BEFORE THE STORM STRUCK. THE STORM CONTINUED TO TRACK
SOUTHEAST WITH SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE NOTED AT A FARMSTEAD NEAR THE
INTERSECTION OF SD COUNTY ROAD 1 AND 144TH ST. THE BARN ON THE
FARMSTEAD SUSTAINED HEAVY DAMAGE TO THE TIN ROOF AS WELL AS
PARTIALLY COLLAPSED WALLS. THE EMPTY GRAIN BINS ON THE PROPERTY
WERE COMPLETELY DESTROYED...WITH ONLY MINOR TO MODERATE DAMAGE TO
THE NEARLY FULL GRAIN BIN. OTHER SMALL OUTBUILDINGS SUSTAINED
DAMAGE AS WELL. WHEAT CROP WAS ALMOST COMPLETELY DESTROYED.

FINAL SUMMARY: NUMEROUS REPORTS OF WALL CLOUDS AND FUNNEL CLOUDS
WERE RECEIVED DURING AND AFTER THE EVENT. OTHER BRIEF TORNADO TOUCHDOWNS
IN AREAS WHERE SURVEYS WERE DIFFICULT ARE HIGHLY POSSIBLE.
ISOLATED AREAS OF 60 TO 70 MPH WINDS WERE ALSO REPORTED THROUGHOUT
THE SURVEY AREA. NUMEROUS REPORTS OF LARGE HAIL WERE REPORTED
EVIDENCED BY THE WIDESPREAD CROP DAMAGE.
