GRASS FIRE DANGER STATEMENT

...ELEVATED TO NEAR-CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT WEST OF A TEMPLE
TO SHERMAN LINE THIS AFTERNOON...

NEAR-RECORD TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED THIS AFTERNOON WHICH WILL
CAUSE RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES TO FALL BELOW 30% WEST OF A TEMPLE
TO SHERMAN LINE. IN FACT, HUMIDITY MAY FALL TO 15% OR LESS WEST
OF US HIGHWAY 281. IN ADDITION, SOUTHWEST WINDS OF 15-20 MPH CAN
BE EXPECTED IN THESE AREAS TODAY. FUELS WILL BE MARGINAL DUE TO
RECENT RAINFALL WITH ENERGY RELEASE COMPONENT VALUES REMAINING
NEAR OR EVEN SLIGHTLY BELOW NORMAL. THESE CONDITIONS WILL COMBINE
FOR AN ELEVATED TO NEAR-CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER THREAT DURING THE
AFTERNOON HOURS AND ACTIVITIES THAT COULD CAUSE THE IGNITION OF
GRASS FIRES ARE DISCOURAGED.

EXTREME CARE IS URGED DURING ALL OUTSIDE ACTIVITIES WHERE THERE
IS A POTENTIAL FOR GRASS FIRES TO GET STARTED. AVOID OUTSIDE
BURNING AND WELDING. DO NOT TOSS LIT CIGARETTE BUTTS OUTSIDE.
REPORT WILD FIRES TO THE NEAREST FIRE DEPARTMENT OR LAW
ENFORCEMENT OFFICE QUICKLY.
