RANGELAND FIRE DANGER STATEMENT

.DISCUSSION...A cold front has crossed the area earlier this
morning and is bringing gusty northwesterly winds to the area.
These winds will continue today...decreasing in the afternoon and
evening. Showers across western and central South Dakota will end
by early this afternoon with skies clearing from the west. Cooler
temperatures can be expected today with higher humidities. Warmer
air will return Sunday before another cold front brings very
light showers, gusty winds, and cooler air Sunday night into
Monday.

...Very High Fire Danger...

The grassland fire danger index will reach the very high category
this afternoon. Very poor weather conditions or a very low
moisture content of grasses, and other dry organic material on
the ground, indicate that dangerous burning conditions exist.
Fires will spread rapidly and show erratic behavior. Outdoor
burning is not recommended.

The outlook for Sunday afternoon, The grassland fire danger index
will reach the high category to very high category.

The grassland fire danger index will reach the high category this
afternoon. Unfavorable weather conditions or a low moisture
content of grasses, and other dry organic material on the ground,
indicate that there is a moderate to high potential for a fire
occurrence. Outdoor burning should be restricted to early morning
or evening hours when wind speeds are usually lower and the
relative humidity is higher.

The outlook for Sunday afternoon, The grassland fire danger index
will reach the high category.
