OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES FORECAST
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DENVER/BOULDER CO
635 PM MDT MON JUL 7 2014

UPPER LEVEL HIGH PRESSURE STRETCHES FROM THE WEST COAST INTO THE
SOUTHERN ROCKIES...WITH AN UPPER LEVEL TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE OVER
THE NORTHERN PLAINS AND GREAT LAKES STATES. COLORADO LIES BETWEEN
THESE TWO SYSTEMS UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF A WEAK NORTHWEST FLOW
ALOFT. IN ADDITION...A COLD FRONT IS CURRENTLY MOVING ACROSS
NORTHEASTERN COLORADO WITH SOME SUBTROPICAL MOISTURE MAKING ITS WAY
INTO THE REGION. THIS PATTERN WILL BRING SCATTERED AFTERNOON AND
EVENING THUNDERSTORMS TO THE MOUNTAINS OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS.
BY THURSDAY...THE UPPER LEVEL RIDGE WILL SHIFT EASTWARD AND BE
CENTERED OVER SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO...AS AN UPPER LEVEL TROUGH OF LOW
PRESSURE DEVELOPS ALONG THE PACIFIC COAST. THIS PATTERN WILL PRODUCE
A MORE SOUTH AND SOUTHWESTERLY FLOW ALOFT OVER THE REGION...WHICH
WILL HELP TRANSPORT MONSOONAL MOISTURE INTO COLORADO. AS A
RESULT...SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY OVER THE HIGH COUNTRY MAY
INCREASE ON THURSDAY...WITH LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL POSSIBLE. THE
CHANCE FOR SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL CONTINUE INTO THE WEEKEND.
