...DECEMBER 2015 WETTER WITH SLIGHTLY ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES...

DECEMBER 2015 STARTED OFF WARM AND DRY AS UPPER LEVEL HIGH PRESSURE
AND WESTERLY FLOW ALOFT DOMINATED THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN REGION. TEN OUT
OF THE FIRST ELEVEN DAYS OF THE MONTH HAD TEMPERATURES ABOVE NORMAL.
SNOW AND COLDER TEMPERATURES RETURNED TO THE AREA ON THE 12TH...AS
AN UPPER LEVEL TROUGH AND ASSOCIATED COLD FRONT MOVED ACROSS
COLORADO. A SECOND STRONGER STORM SYSTEM BROUGHT HEAVY SNOW AND
WINDY CONDITIONS TO THE FRONT RANGE URBAN CORRIDOR...PALMER DIVIDE
AND NORTHEASTERN PLAINS. 6 TO 12 INCHES FELL ACROSS THE FRONT RANGE
URBAN CORRIDOR...WITH 7.7 INCHES OF SNOW MEASURED AT DENVER
INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. A SPOTTER ONE MILE NORTH OF STRASBURG
REPORTED NUMEROUS 3 FOOT DRIFTS WITH THIS STORM. WARMER AND DRIER
WEATHER RETURNED TO THE AREA ON THE 18TH AS UPPER LEVEL HIGH
PRESSURE REBUILT OVER THE REGION. THE MONTH ENDED ON A VERY COLD
NOTE AS A LARGE UPPER LEVEL TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE AND ARCTIC
AIRMASS SETTLED OVER COLORADO. DENVER DID EXPERIENCE A WHITE
CHRISTMAS THIS YEAR...WITH 2.3 INCHES OF SNOW MEASURED AT DENVER
INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT ON CHRISTMAS DAY.

TEMPERATURES:

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE AT DENVER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT FOR THE
MONTH OF  WAS 29.4 DEGREES F WHICH WAS 0.6 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL.
DECEMBER 1933 WAS THE WARMEST ON RECORD AT 43.8 DEGREES F.
THE COLDEST DECEMBER ON RECORD WAS 17.4 DEGREES F BACK IN 1933.
ON THE 9TH...THE TEMPERATURE CLIMBED TO 69 DEGREES WHICH IS THE
HIGHEST TEMPERATURE OF THE MONTH. THE COLDEST TEMPERATURE OF 0
DEGREES F OCCURRED ON THE 17TH AND 28TH.
