.....FEBRUARY 2014 BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES AND PRECIPITAION.....

FEBRUARY 2014 STARTED OUT COLD AS A LARGE AND DEEP UPPER LEVEL
TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE DOMINATED THE WESTERN HALF OF THE UNITED
STATES. NINE OF THE FIRST TEN DAYS OF THE MONTH HAD BELOW NORMAL
TEMPERATURES. ON FEBRUARY 4TH...AN ARCTIC COLD FRONT MOVED INTO
NORTHEASTERN COLORADO BRINGING BITTERLY COLD TEMPERATURES AND LIGHT
SNOW TO DENVER. FOUR CONSECUTIVE MORNINGS FROM THE 4TH THROUGH THE
7TH HAD TEMPERATURES BELOW ZERO. ON THE MORNING OF THE 5TH...THE
TEMPERATURE PLUMMETED TO MINUS 19 DEGREES F WHICH WAS THE COLDEST
TEMPERATURE DURING THE MONTH. THE LAST TIME THE TEMPERATURE IN
DENVER DROPPED TO 19 BELOW ZERO WAS BACK ON DECEMBER 15TH OF 2008.
NEW RECORD LOW MAXIMUM TEMPERATURES WERE ALSO SET ON THE 5TH AND 6TH
WITH DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES ONLY REACHING MINUS 1 AND PLUS 1
DEGREES FAHREINHEIT RESPECTIVELY.

TOWARD THE MIDDLE OF THE MONTH...THE UPPER TROUGH SHIFTED INTO THE
EASTERN UNITED STATES AND WAS REPLACED WITH AN UPPER LEVEL RIDGE OF
HIGH PRESSURE. THE PATTERN THEN BECAME MORE ZONAL WITH A MODERATE
WESTERLY FLOW ALOFT OVER COLORADO. THIS PRODUCED A WARM DOWNSLOPE
FLOW EAST OF THE MOUNTAINS WHICH RESULTED IN ABOVE NORMAL
TEMPERATURES IN DENVER FROM THE 12TH THROUGH THE 24TH. THE ONLY
EXEPTION TO THIS WAS ON THE 20TH WHEN A WEAK COLD FRONT MOVED ACROSS
THE AREA. DURING THIS WARM PERIOD...DENVER HAD ITS WARMEST DAY OF
THE MONTH WHICH WAS 68 DEGREES F ON THE 16TH.

MUCH COLDER WEATHER ACCOMPANIED WITH LIGHT SNOW RETURNED TO DENVER
ON THE 25TH AS COLD FRONT MOVED ACROSS NORTHEASTERN COLORADO.
TEMPERATURES REBOUNDED TO ABOVE NORMAL VALUES BY THE 27TH AS UPPER
LEVEL HIGH PRESSURE BUILT OVER THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN REGION.

TEMPERATURES:

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY WAS 28.2 DEGREES F

1899.

THERE WERE EIGHT DAYS IN WHICH THE DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURE DID NOT
EXCEED 32 DEGREES...AND FIVE DAYS IN WHICH THE LOW TEMPERATURE
DROPPED BELOW ZERO. THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE OF THE MONTH WAS 68
DEGREES WHICH OCCURRED ON THE 16TH...AND THE COLDEST TEMPERATURE OF
THE MONTH WAS -19 DEGREES ON THE MORNING OF THE 5TH.

PRECIPITATION:

PRECIPITATION FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY WAS 0.19 INCHES...WHICH IS
0.18 INCHES BELOW THE NORMAL 0F 0.37 INCHES. 0.12 INCHES OF

THE MONTH. EVENTHOUGH DENVER WAS VERY DRY FOR THE MONTH...IT DID NOT

DESPITE THE LITTLE SNOWFALL...FEBRUARY OF 2014 WAS NOT ONE OF THE
