                          MARCH 2016
...UNSEASONABLY WARM AND DRY FIRST HALF FOLLOWED BY BLIZZARD ON THE 23RD...

UPPER LEVEL HIGH PRESSURE DOMINATED COLORADO FOR THE FIRST HALF OF
MARCH...WITH ONLY AN OCCASIONAL WEAK UPPER LEVEL TROUGH MOVING
ACROSS THE REGION. THIS PATTERN RESULTED IN DRY AND MILD WEATHER IN
DENVER...WITH NO PRECIPITATION AND ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES DURING
THE FIRST FOURTEEN DAYS OF THE MONTH. THE WEATHER TURNED COLDER ON
THE 15TH AS AN UPPER LEVEL STORM SYSTEM OVER THE NORTHERN ROCKIES
PUSHED A COLD FRONT ACROSS NORTHEASTERN COLORADO. ANOTHER STORM
SYSTEM BROUGHT SNOW AND COLDER TEMPERATURES TO NORTH CENTRAL AND
NORTHEASTERN COLORADO ON THE 17TH AND 18TH. DENVER INTERNATIONAL
AIRPORT MEASURED 4.7 INCHES OF SNOW WITH THIS STORM.

MUCH WARMER TEMPERATURES RETURNED TO THE AREA ON THE 21ST AS UPPER
LEVEL HIGH PRESSURE REBUILT OVER THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN REGION.
THE 21ST AND 22ND WERE VERY WARM...WITH TEMPERATURE READINGS OF
73 DEGREES AT DENVER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT BOTH DAYS.

ON THE MORNING OF THE 23RD...A RAPIDLY INTENSIFYING STORM SYSTEM
OVER EASTERN COLORADO AND WESTERN KANSAS BROUGHT HEAVY SNOW AND
BLIZZARD CONDITIONS TO MUCH OF NORTHEASTERN COLORADO. 1 TO 2 FEET OF
SNOW FELL ACROSS MUCH OF THE FRONT RANGE URBAN CORRIDOR...WITH OVER
30 INCHES IN SOME FOOTHILLS LOCATIONS. MOST OF THIS SNOW FELL WITHIN
A 12 HOUR PERIOD FROM THE MORNING INTO THE AFTERNOON HOURS. WINDY
CONDITIONS ACCOMPANIED THIS STORM...WITH A 59 MPH WIND GUST REPORTED
AT DIA.
THE PALMER DIVIDE SAW 12 TO 18 INCHES...WITH 6 TO 10 INCHES ACROSS
THE NORTHEASTERN PLAINS. THE OFFICIAL SNOWFALL MEASUREMENT AT DENVER
INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT WAS 13.1 INCHES. IN ADDITION...THE SNOW WAS
VERY WET WITH MANY LOCATIONS RECEIVING ONE TO TWO INCHES OF
PRECIPITATION. SOME FOOTHILLS LOCATIONS RECEIVED NEARLY THREE INCHES
OF PRECIPITATION WITH THIS STORM. THE MONTH ENDED GENERALLY COOL AND
UNSETTLED AS A SERIES OF UPPER LEVEL STORM SYSTEM MOVED ACROSS THE
REGION.
