PERIODS OF MONSOONAL MOISTURE MOVED OVER COLORADO DURING THE MONTH
OF AUGUST WHICH RESULTED IN HIGHER THAN AVERAGE
PRECIPITATION...INCREASED CLOUD COVER AND COOLER TEMPERATURES ACROSS
MUCH OF NORTH CENTRAL AND NORTHEASTERN COLORADO. IN
ADDITION...OCCASIONAL COLD FRONTS WHICH MOVED ACROSS NORTHEASTERN
COLORADO BROUGHT COOLER TEMPERATURES AND ENHANCED PRECIPITATION
ACROSS MUCH OF THE FRONT RANGE FOOTHILLS...EASTERN PLAINS AND PALMER
DIVIDE.

TEMPERATURES:

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE AT DENVER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT FOR THE
MONTH OF AUGUST WAS 70.6 DEGREES F WHICH WAS 1.9 DEGREES BELOW
NORMAL. AUGUST OF 2011 WAS THE WARMEST AUGUST ON RECORD...WITH AN
AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 77.0 DEGREES F.  THE COLDEST AUGUST ON RECORD
WAS 66.5 DEGREES F BACK IN 1915. THERE WERE ONLY FOUR DAYS IN WHICH
THE MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE EXCEEDED 90 DEGREES...AND NO DAYS IN WHICH
THE TEMPERATURE REACHED OR EXCEEDED THE CENTURY MARK. THE HIGHEST
