...JULY 2014 ABOVE AVERAGE PRECIPITATION AND NEAR AVERAGE TEMPERATURE...

JULY 2014 STARTED OUT ON THE COOL SIDE WITH MAXIMUM TEMPERATURES IN THE
70`S THE FIRST DAY OF THE MONTH. THE COOL WEATHER WAS DUE TO AN UPPER
LEVEL TROUGH AND ASSOCIATED COLD FRONT THAT MOVED ACROSS NORTHEASTERN
COLORADO. ON JULY 3RD, AN UPPER LEVEL RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE BUILT OVER
THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN REGION. THIS UPPER RIDGE BROUGHT ABOVE NORMAL
TEMPERATURES TO NORTH CENTRAL AND NORTHEASTERN COLORADO FROM THE 3RD
THROUGH THE 7TH. DAYTIME TEMPERATURES EXCEEDED 90 DEGREES EACH DAY
DURING THIS FIVE DAY PERIOD...WITH THE MAX TEMPERATURE OF 100 DEGREES ON
THE 7TH BEING THE HOTTEST DAY OF THE MONTH. DURING THE LATE AFTERNOON
OF THE 7TH...A STRONG COLD FRONT MOVED ACROSS NORTHEASTERN COLORADO.
INCREASED INSTABILITY AND MOISTURE ASSOCIATED WITH FRONT PRODUCED
SEVERE WEATHER ACROSS METRO DENVER. NO SEVERE WEATHER WAS REPORTED AT
DENVER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT...HOWEVER A WELCOME 0.15 INCHES OF
PRECIPITATION WAS MEASURED. DENVER SAW COOLER TEMPERATURES ON THE
8TH...HOWEVER THE COOL DOWN WOULD BE BRIEF WITH 90 DEGREE TEMPERATURES
RETURNING TO THE REGION ON THE 9TH. ON THE 11TH...THE UPPER RIDGE MOVED
INTO THE TEXAS PANHANDLE WHICH ALLOWED SOME MONSOONAL MOISTURE TO FLOW
INTO COLORADO FROM THE SOUTHWEST. THIS MONSOONAL MOISTURE COMBINED WITH
DAYTIME HEATING PRODUCED AFTERNOON AND EVENING SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS THE FRONT RANGE URBAN CORRIDOR. THE UPPER RIDGE
RETROGRADED WESTWARD INTO NEVADA ON THE 12TH...WHICH RESULTED IN
NORTHWEST FLOW ALOFT OVER COLORADO. IN ADDITION...A STRONG UPPER LEVEL
TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE DEVELOPED OVER THE NORTHERN PLAINS AND GREAT
LAKES STATES. THIS PATTERN ALLOWED A SERIES OF COLD FRONTS TO PUSH
ACROSS NORTHEASTERN COLORADO...WHICH RESULTED IN WETTER AND COOLER
WEATHER ACROSS THE REGION FROM THE 12TH THROUGH THE 17TH. HOT AND DRY
WEATHER RETURNED TO NORTH CENTRAL AND NORTHEASTERN COLORADO BY THE 18TH
AS UPPER LEVEL HIGH PRESSURE RE-ESTABLISHED OVER THE SOUTHWESTERN
STATES. A NINE DAY STRETCH OF 90 DEGREE PLUS WEATHER OCCURRED IN DENVER
FROM THE 18TH THROUGH THE 26TH. THE MONTH ENDED ON A MUCH COOLER AND
WETTER NOTE. A COLD FRONT MOVED ACROSS THE REGION ON THE AFTERNOON
OF THE 29TH PRODUCING AN UPSLOPE FLOW BEHIND IT. THIS FRONT COMBINED
WITH INCREASED MONSOON MOISTURE PRODUCED WIDESPREAD RAIN ON THE 29TH
AND 30TH. DURING THE TWO DAY PERIOD...2.93 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION
FELL AT DENVER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. THE 1.80 INCHES OF
PRECIPITATION WHICH FELL ON THE 29TH...ESTABLISHED A NEW DAILY
PRECIPITATION RECORD. JULY 30TH WAS A VERY COOL DAY ACROSS
NORTHEASTERN COLORADO WITH RAIN FALLING MOST OF THE DAY. DENVER ONLY
MANAGED TO REACH A HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 62 DEGREES. THIS WAS THE
COOLEST MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE RECORDED ON JULY 30TH IN DENVER SINCE
RECORDS BEGAN IN 1872. THE PREVIOUS RECORD WAS 64 DEGREES BACK IN
