...APRIL 2016 WETTER WITH NEAR NORMAL TEMPERATURES...

APRIL 2016 STARTED OUT WARM AND MOSTLY DRY AS UPPER LEVEL HIGH
PRESSURE DOMINATED THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN REGION. THIRTEEN OUT THE
FIRST FOURTEEN DAYS IN DENVER HAD TEMPERATURES ABOVE NORMAL.
THE WEATHER DRASTICALLY CHANGED DURING THE MIDDLE OF THE MONTH
AS A LARGE STORM SYSTEM TRACKED FROM THE FOUR CORNERS REGION ACROSS
COLORADO. THIS STORM SYSTEM PRODUCED ONE TO TWO FEET OF SNOW IN
METRO DENVER AND THE PALMER DIVIDE...WITH OVER FOUR FEET IN SOME
FOOTHILL LOCATIONS WEST OF DENVER. DENVER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
MEASURED 12.1 INCHES OF SNOW FROM THE 16TH THROUGH THE MORNING OF
THE 17TH. WARMER AND DRIER WEATHER RETURNED ON THE 21ST AND
CONTINUED THROUGH THE 25TH AS UPPER LEVEL HIGH PRESSURE AND A DRY
SOUTHWESTERLY DOWNSLOPE FLOW SET UP OVER EASTERN COLORADO. THE MONTH
ENDED COOL AND WET AS A SLOW MOVING STORM SYSTEM TRACKED FROM THE
NORTHERN ARIZONA ACROSS COLORADO.

TEMPERATURES:

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE AT DENVER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT FOR THE
MONTH WAS 47.2 DEGREES F WHICH WAS 0.2 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL.
THE WARMEST APRIL ON RECORD OCCURRED BACK IN 1981...WITH AN AVERAGE
MONTHLY TEMPERATURE OF 56.4 DEGREES F. THE COLDEST APRIL ON RECORD
WAS 38.8 DEGREES F BACK IN 1920. ON THE 22ND AND 23RD...THE TEMPERATURE
CLIMBED TO 77 DEGREES WHICH IS THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE OF THE MONTH.
THE COLDEST TEMPERATURE OF 25 DEGREES F OCCURRED ON THE MORNING
OF THE 1ST.
