...Near Critical Fire Weather Conditions over Parts of the Area
Friday and Saturday...

.Discussion...

Upper ridge over Colorado will gradually weaken tonight and Friday,
allowing increasing southwesterly flow over the region. This will
bring increasing fire danger on Friday and Saturday. West to
southwest winds will begin to increase in the high country late
tonight with gusts to 40 mph possible in the mountains by Friday
afternoon and gusts to around 30 mph possible over the adjacent
lower elevations. Even stronger gusts will be possible on Saturday.
These winds, in combination with low relative humidities dropping
below 15 percent, will elevate the fire danger for areas along and
near the mountains for the next couple of days. After running the
fire weather hazard checker, the areal coverage and the duration of
the event looks too low to warrant fire weather highlights at this
time. Regardless, there will still be some local areas of concern
for brief periods for the next couple days. It is advisable to
postpone outdoor burning or any other activities that could
accidentally start a wildfire during this period.

Saturday night and Sunday, a cold, windy and moist Pacific storm
system will cross the entire district. This system will bring near
average temperatures, gusty winds and a chance of precipitation to
much of the area. Drier weather will return early next week with
temperatures remaining near average for this time of year.

On Friday, afternoon ventilation rates will generally be good or
better west of a line from La Junta through Kim. East of that line,
rates will generally be poor. On Saturday, the area of good or
better ventilation will spread east to near the Kansas border.
Generally good or better ventilation is anticipated west of a line
from Lamar through Springfield with generally poor to fair
ventilation east of that line.

--- thunderstorms imply strong gusty and erratic winds ---
