...HEAT INDICES OF 104 TO 108 DEGREES EXPECTED TODAY...

Hot afternoon temperatures running 12-15 degrees above late April
normals, combined with high humidity, will allow heat index
readings to reach as high as 108 degrees over inland Cameron,
inland Willacy, and Kenedy counties. These readings may also occur
in the McAllen metro area of Hidalgo county if humidity remains
high through the afternoon hours.

While these heat index values are not expected to reach Heat
Advisory criteria, people may not yet be acclimated to the
oppressive conditions at this early date in the season.

Residents with outdoor plans are reminded to drink plenty of
water and wear light, loose-fitting clothing. Children and pets
should never be left alone in vehicles, where interior
temperatures can become very dangerous within minutes.
