Rangeland Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service Sioux Falls SD
237 PM CDT Sun Apr 21 2024

.DISCUSSION...
Current west northwest winds will gradually settle into a more
southwesterly direction this evening and eventually southerly
overnight, beginning to gusts near or above 30 mph by the daybreak
hours Monday, strongest over NW Iowa. A front will move through
the area Monday switching winds out of a more northwesterly
direction behind it, still remaining breezy.

Despite the gusty winds and lower relative humidities, area
webcams indicate the vegetation has sufficiently greened up on an
area-average to preclude the need for a fire weather headline but
localized areas of still cured vegetation will carry elevated fire
danger. Gusty northwesterly winds are again expected Tuesday with
similar fire weather concerns and reasoning to that of Monday.

Scattered showers or sprinkles are also possible Monday and
Tuesday, mainly near and east of I-29 although any accumulation
would be minimal. Better chances of more widespread wetting rain
arrive later Thursday into the weekend.
