KEY WEST CONTINUED TO OBSERVE WARMER THAN NORMAL CONDITIONS DURING
THE MONTH OF OCTOBER WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 80.8F, OR 0.6F
ABOVE NORMAL. OCTOBER WAS THE 15TH CONSECUTIVE MONTH WITH ABOVE
NORMAL TEMPERATURES IN KEY WEST. SEASON TO DATE, AN AVERAGE
TEMPERATURE OF 82.7F HAS BEEN OBSERVED, WHICH RANKS AS A TIE FOR THE
9TH WARMEST FALL ON RECORD.

HISTORICALLY, THE FALL SEASONS FIRST COLD FRONT REACHES THE KEYS ON
ABOUT OCTOBER 28TH, AND THIS YEAR WAS NO DIFFERENT. TWO COLD FRONTS
REACHED THE KEYS TOWARD THE END OF THE MONTH, ONE ON OCTOBER 25TH
AND ANOTHER REINFORCING SHOT OF UNSEASONABLY COOL AIR FOLLOWED A
FRONTAL PASSAGE ON OCTOBER 30TH. THE LATTER COLD FRONT DROPPED
TEMPERATURES DOWN TO 60 DEGREES AT THE KEY WEST INTERNATIONAL
AIRPORT ON OCTOBER 31ST, SETTING THE DAILY LOW TEMPERATURE RECORD.
THIS WAS JUST THE 4TH TIME IN THE 145 YEAR RECORD PERIOD WHERE A
TEMPERATURE OF 60F OR COLDER WAS OBSERVED IN KEY WEST DURING THE
MONTH OF OCTOBER.

TAKING A LOOK AT RAINFALL, FOR THE SECOND CONSECUTIVE MONTH, KEY
WEST RECEIVED ABOVE AVERAGE RAINFALL WITH 5.81 INCHES, OR 0.88
INCHES ABOVE NORMAL. THE LAST TIME KEY WEST SAW CONSECUTIVE MONTHS
WITH ABOVE AVERAGE RAINFALL WAS AUGUST/SEPTEMBER OF 2016. SEASON TO
DATE, KEY WEST HAS MEASURED 15.09 INCHES OF RAIN, GOOD ENOUGH FOR
THE 36TH WETTEST FALL ON RECORD.

RAINFALL AND TEMPERATURE RECORDS IN KEY WEST DATE BACK TO 1871 AND
1872, RESPECTIVELY.
