SUMMARY...THE COLDER THAN NORMAL AIR THAT GOT TRAPPED IN THE VALLEYS OF
SOUTHWEST MONTANA LATE IN DECEMBER DIDN`T BEGIN TO SCOUR OUT UNTIL
ABOUT MID TO LATE-JANUARY. FROM THEN ON...TEMPERATURES REMAINED NEAR
TO ABOVE NORMAL AT THE HELENA REGIONAL AIRPORT...EVEN REACHING CLOSE
TO 50 DEGREES LATE IN THE MONTH. SEVERAL AREAS IN SOUTHWEST MONTANA
ENDED UP COLDER THAN NORMAL FOR THE MONTH...BUT AT THE HELENA
AIRPORT TEMPERATURES ACTUALLY ENDED UP JUST ABOVE NORMAL.
PRECIPITATION AND SNOWFALL WERE BOTH NEAR TO BELOW NORMAL.
OFFICIALLY...HELENA ENDED UP 2.5 INCHES BELOW NORMAL ON SNOWFALL.
DESPITE THAT...SNOW REMAINED ON THE GROUND AT THE AIRPORT THE ENTIRE
MONTH AND HAS YET TO FULLY MELT OFF. AS OF JAN 31...THE STREAK OF
DAYS WITH 1 INCH OR MORE OF SNOW ON THE GROUND WAS AT 49 DAYS WHICH
IS THE LONGEST STREAK SINCE THE WINTER OF 2009-10.
