...Forecast Flooding Changed from Minor to Moderate Severity for the
following rivers in Southwest Lower Michigan...
  Grand River At Grand Rapids affecting Kent County
  Red Cedar River At East Lansing affecting Ingham County
  Thornapple River Near Caledonia affecting Kent County

.Nearly two days of heavy rainfall has impacted much of Lower
Michigan. Observed rainfall totals ranged from two to four
inches over many of the streams and tributaries leading into the Red
Cedar River, Thornapple River and Grand River. River rises are
expected to crest late this week for smaller streams and into the
weekend and early next week for the larger rivers.

Additional rainfall is possible late Thursday into Friday, but total
will remain very light. Another system will bring rain Saturday into
Sunday, which could slightly delay improvement, but is not expected
to lead to additional impacts. The following forecast is based on
observed and forecast 48 hour precipitation.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Safety message...Even 6 inches of fast-moving flood water can knock
you off your feet... and a depth of 2 feet will float your car.
Never try to walk... swim... or drive through such swift water.  If
you come upon flood waters... stop... turn around and go another way.


This warning will be in effect until the river falls below its flood
stage.

...Forecast flooding increased from Minor to Moderate severity...
The flood warning continues for
  the Grand River At Grand Rapids.
* from Thursday evening to Tuesday afternoon.
* At 11:00 AM Wednesday the stage was 12.9 feet.
* Flood stage is 18.0 feet.
* Moderate Flooding is forecast.
* Forecast, rise above flood stage by tomorrow evening and continue
  to rise to near 21.0 feet by Saturday morning. The river will fall
  below flood stage by Tuesday morning.
* Impact, at 21.0 feet...Expect moderate to major flooding in the
  area, Ann Street, and the City Dikes. Major flooding of homes and
  structures occurs upstream in Comstock Park and downstream of Grand
  Rapids to Robinson Township.

The flood warning continues for
  the Red Cedar River At East Lansing.
* until Tuesday morning.
* At 11:30 AM Wednesday the stage was 8.7 feet.
* Flood stage is 7.0 feet.
* Minor Flooding is occurring and Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast, the river will continue rising to near 10.3 feet by
  tomorrow evening. The river will fall below flood stage Monday
  before midnight.
* Impact, at 10.5 feet...Expect moderate flooding of homes and
  businesses in the Cedar and Beech Streets area, South Street, and
  1.5 miles downstream of gage site.
* Flood history, this crest compares to a previous crest of 10.2 feet
  on Mar 27 1916.

* from this afternoon to Sunday evening.
* At 10:30 AM Wednesday the stage was 10.2 feet.
* Flood stage is 10.0 feet.
* Minor Flooding is occurring and Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast, the river will continue rising to near 12.1 feet by
  tomorrow evening. The river will fall below flood stage late Sunday
  morning.
* Impact, at 13.0 feet...Thornapple River Drive is flooded.
* Flood history, this crest compares to a previous crest of 11.7 feet
  on Apr 19 2013.
