Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Central South Carolina
and East Central Georgia
National Weather Service Columbia SC
259 PM EDT Thu Jun 22 2017

.DISCUSSION...High pressure is anchored off the Southeastern
US coast with a weak trough of low pressure across the forecast
area. This will keep a very moist atmosphere in place through
tonight, with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms
through early this evening.

The pressure gradient will be tight enough to support fair
dispersion late this evening through early Friday morning.
Mostly cloudy skies together with weak low-level mixing will
minimize radiational cooling. As a result, only areas of light
fog are expected.

Normal daytime heating will help trigger widely scattered
late-day showers and thunderstorms Friday, although the
atmosphere will be somewhat drier. Surface winds will be from
the southwest at 5 to 10 mph after daybreak, then increase to
10 to 15 mph during the afternoon. Transport winds will be
similar in direction and increase to at 15 to 20 mph.
Relative humidities will drop into the 45 to 50 percent range.
