.DISCUSSION...

A ridge of high pressure will move east of the Mid Atlantic
Coast today. A southerly return flow of warm and humid
air ahead of an approaching cold front will bring isolated
to scattered afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms.

The cold front over the Upper Great Lakes early today will
drift southeast and cross the state tonight and Friday
morning. This front will likely stall along the Maryland
border for Friday and an unusually strong wave of low
pressure for mid summer will form and move east along the
boundary, pulling abundant moisture up and over the front
from the south.

Heavy rain is likely Friday and Friday night, especially
across the southern third of Pennsylvania where rainfall
totals Friday through Saturday could reach 3 or 4 inches in
some locations, with generally less than one inch falling to
the north Interstate 80.

A much cooler airmass will overspread the District over the
weekend and dry and slightly cooler than normal weather will
last into mid- week.
