HYDROMETEOROLOGICAL DISCUSSION
NWS ALASKA PACIFIC RIVER FORECAST CENTER ANCHORAGE AK
300 PM AKDT SAT OCT 21 2017

...FLOOD POTENTIAL...

THE FLOOD POTENTIAL IS CURRENTLY LOW FOR THE ENTIRE STATE.

...HYDROMETEOROLOGICAL DISCUSSION....

ON SATURDAY ALASKA IS UNDER A LARGE AREA OF LOW PRESSURE WITH A LOW
CENTER LOCATED OVER THE YUKON KUSKOKWIM DELTA AND ANOTHER CENTER
OVER THE EASTERN GULF OF ALASKA. NORTHERLY DRY FLOW ALOFT EXISTS
ACROSS MOST OF THE INTERIOR WITH ON SHORE FLOW OCCURRING ALONG THE
EASTERN GULF FROM PRINCE WILLIAM SOUND TO THE SOUTHEAST PANHANDLE.
PRECIPITATION IS MOSTLY SNOW DOWN TO SEA LEVEL ALONG THE GULF COAST
AND SOUTH CENTRAL ALASKA WITH RAIN BELOW 2000 FEET OVER THE
SOUTHEAST PANHANDLE.

DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS PRECIPITATION WILL CONTINUE ACROSS THE
PANHANDLE WITH AMOUNTS RANGING FROM 0.25 TO 0.5 INCH FROM JUNEAU
SOUTH TO ANNETTE. SOME LOCATIONS WITH FAVORABLE SOUTH WEST FLOW
EXPOSURE COULD RECEIVE UP TO ONE INCH OF RAIN BETWEEN SATURDAY
AFTERNOON AND SUNDAY AFTERNOON.

FROM SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY THE PATTERN BEGINS TO SHIFT AS THE
PERSISTENT WESTERLY FLOW ACROSS THE GULF OF ALASKA BEGINS TO BUCKLE
WITH A RIDGE BUILDING OVER BC. MORE RAIN WILL CONTINUE OVER THE
PANHANDLE WHILE THE MAINLAND REMAINS RELATIVELY DRY.
