RECORD EVENT REPORT...CORRECTED
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BALTIMORE MD/WASHINGTON DC
905 AM EST SAT DEC 16 2017

...RECORD DAILY MAXIMUM SNOWFALL WAS NOT SET AT WASHINGTON NATIONAL
DC ON SATURDAY DECEMBER 9 2017...

IT WAS REPORTED PREVIOUSLY THAT A RECORD SNOWFALL OF 2.0 INCHES HAD
BEEN SET AT RONALD REAGAN WASHINGTON NATIONAL AIRPORT NEAR
WASHINGTON DC ON SATURDAY DECEMBER 9 2017. THIS WOULD HAVE BROKEN
THE OLD RECORD OF 1.6 SET IN 2005.

SINCE THAT TIME, THE CONTRACT WEATHER OBSERVERS AT THE AIRPORT HAVE
INFORMED US THAT AN ERROR WAS MADE IN REPORTING THE DAILY SNOW TOTAL
TO THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE. THE CORRECT TOTAL FOR SATURDAY
DECEMBER 9 2017 WAS ACTUALLY 1.5 INCHES. THIS VALUE DOES NOT BREAK
THE EXISTING RECORD OF 1.6 INCHES SET IN 2005.

ALL CLIMATE DATA ARE CONSIDERED PRELIMINARY UNTIL REVIEWED BY THE
NATIONAL CENTER FOR ENVIRONMENTAL INFORMATION (NCEI).
