PARTLY CLOUDY TO MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES ALONG WITH AREAS OF DENSE VALLEY
FOG WERE PRESENT ACROSS THE COALFIELDS THIS MORNING. TEMPERATURES AT
7 AM WERE GENERALLY IN THE 60S AT MOST LOCATIONS. TYPICAL LOWS FOR
THIS TIME OF YEAR ARE IN THE MID 60S.

BY MID AFTERNOON...A BEAUTIFUL SUMMER DAY WAS IN FULL SWING ACROSS
EASTERN KENTUCKY. UNDER PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES WITH ABUNDANT
SUNSHINE...TEMPERATURES CLIMBED INTO THE LOWER TO MID 80S. THESE
TEMPERATURES ARE NEAR NORMAL FOR THIS DAY IN JULY.

HIGH PRESSURE CENTERED OVER THE NORTHEASTERN U.S. WILL GRADUALLY
SHIFT TO THE SOUTH AND EAST OVER THE WEEKEND. THIS HIGH WILL BRING
DRY WEATHER AND WARM TEMPERATURES THROUGH EARLY SUNDAY. A WEAKENING
COLD FRONT AND A PASSING UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE WILL BRING A CHANCE
FOR ISOLATED TO SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ON SUNDAY
AFTERNOON AND EVENING. A STRONGER COLD FRONT AND UPPER LEVEL SYSTEM
WILL BRING A PERIOD OF UNSETTLED WEATHER FROM SUNDAY NIGHT INTO
TUESDAY. MUCH COOLER AIR WILL ARRIVE AT MID WEEK DROPPING HIGHS DOWN
INTO THE 70S. LOWS TONIGHT WILL BE IN THE GENERALLY BE IN THE LOWER
TO MID 60S AND HIGHS ON SATURDAY WILL BE IN THE UPPER 80S TO LOWER
90S.

ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...IN 1984...DURING THE EARLY EVENING
HOURS...THUNDERSTORMS ROLLED ACROSS LESLIE...PERRY...AND HARLAN
COUNTIES. SEVERAL TREES...SOME 2 FEET IN DIAMETER...WERE FELLED BY
HIGH WINDS. IN HAZARD...A 75 FOOT SECTION OF A ROOF WAS BLOWN OFF THE
FOOD FAIR GROCERY STORE. SOME OF THE DEBRIS FROM THE ROOF FLEW INTO A
PARKED VAN AND CAUSED SEVERE INJURIES TO AN 8 YEAR OLD BOY/S NECK.
