URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE GRAY ME
318 PM EST SUN JAN 22 2017

...SIGNIFICANT WINTER STORM TO AFFECT THE AREA MONDAY NIGHT INTO
TUESDAY...

.LOW PRESSURE DEVELOPING OVER THE SOUTHEAST WILL TRACK UP THE EAST
COAST AND BRING AN ARRAY OF PRECIPITATION TYPES TO THE FORECAST
AREA EARLY THIS WEEK. A COLD FRONT PUSHING SOUTHWESTWARD FROM THE
MARITIMES WILL PROVIDE A SUPPLY OF COLDER AIR...BUT QUESTIONS
REMAIN AS TO HOW FAR SOUTH THIS FRONT MAKES IT BEFORE STALLING.
CONFIDENCE IS FAIRLY HIGH THAT TEMPERATURES WILL REMAIN NEAR
FREEZING ACROSS LARGE PORTION OF NEW HAMPSHIRE AND WESTERN MAINE.
PRECIPITATION MAY START AS A BRIEF WINTRY MIX BEFORE CHANGING TO
SNOW FOR MOST OF THE AREA AWAY FROM THE COAST. WARM AIR ALOFT WILL
THEN CHANGE PRECIPITATION TO SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN...BEFORE RAIN
ACROSS SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE AND COASTAL MAINE. HOW FAR NORTH
THAT WARM AIR ALOFT MAKES IT REMAINS A LOW CONFIDENCE
FORECAST...SO FOR NOW THE POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR AROUND 6 INCHES OF
SNOW WITHIN THE WATCH AREA...ALONG WITH SOME LIGHT ICING.
