Fire Weather Planning Forecast for SW VA...SE WV and NW NC
National Weather Service Blacksburg VA
925 AM EST Tue Feb 21 2017

.DISCUSSION...

High pressure along the coast will drift east and offshore later
today ahead of a weak cold front approaching from the west. This
will allow return southeasterly flow to develop that in turn will
bring a gradual increase in low level moisture today with minimum
humidity levels in the 35 to 45 percent range. Low level winds
will turn more east to southeast as well but generally remain
below 10-15 mph through late afternoon. However better transport
winds and ventilation are expected as the center of the high
pressure ridge shifts east.

Today may offer the best window for any additional early
prescribed burning through the rest of the week, though relative
humidities are forecast to be higher than Monday. More unsettled
conditions then develop tonight into Wednesday with overcast
skies and increasing chances for showers. The best chance of rain
is later tonight into early Wednesday, although a significant
wetting rainfall does not appear likely. However relative humidity
should be quite a bit higher on Wednesday with most locations
seeing levels remain above 50 to 60 percent.

The trend of seeing warm and moist conditions under overall light
winds will linger through late in the week before a cold front
arrives by early in the weekend. This front may bring the next
chance of measurable wetting rainfall outside of scattered late
week showers. Gusty northwest winds and lower humidity will follow
the front for the rest of next weekend.
