Rangeland Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service Sioux Falls SD

.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 323 PM CDT Fri Apr 12 2024

Sunny skies, light winds, and quiet condition are expected to
continue this afternoon and evening, as minimum RH values fall
into the 20s. Wind direction then shifts and become more
south/southeasterly overnight.

High to very high fire danger is expected to prevail across the
region Saturday as breezy south/southwesterly winds cause relative
humidity values to fall into the 20s. Gusts should peak in the 20s
but could see occasional gusts in the 30s if mixing is slightly
deeper than expected, especially downslope of the MN Buffalo Ridge.
Thus, with dry fuels still in place, have decided to issue a Fire
Weather Watch for portions southeast South Dakota, northwest Iowa,
and southwest Minnesota after collaboration with neighbors.

Quiet conditions and slightly cooler temperatures are expected
Sunday. Winds will also be notably lighter during this time,
keeping the threat for overall fire danger fairly low.

People are urged to exercise extreme care with respect to outdoor
activities that could cause grass fires. Avoid equipment that can
cause sparks near dry grass or brush. Do not toss cigarettes on
the ground. Report new fires quickly to the nearest fire
department or law enforcement office.
