FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR WEST TEXAS/SOUTHEASTERN NEW MEXICO
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MIDLAND/ODESSA TX
221 PM CDT TUE APR 15 2014

...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FOR THE GUADALUPE MOUNTAINS FROM
LATE WEDNESDAY MORNING UNTIL WEDNESDAY EVENING FOR 20 FOOT WINDS
OF 20 MPH OR MORE...HUMIDITY OF 15 PERCENT OR LESS AND HIGH FIRE
DANGER FOR THE GUADALUPE MOUNTAINS...

...HIGH HAINES INDEX AREAWIDE WEDNESDAY AND WEDNESDAY NIGHT...

.DISCUSSION...

NEAR CRITICAL TO CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS WILL PERSIST OVER
PORTIONS OF THE GUADALUPE MOUNTAINS AND SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO PLAINS
UNTIL AROUND SUNDOWN. DRY AIR WILL STAY OVER THE REGION TONIGHT, SO
RECOVERY WILL BE POOR TO FAIR. TEMPERATURES WILL WARM CLOSER TO
NORMAL WEDNESDAY, AND WITH DRY AIR STILL OVER THE REGION, RH/S WILL
DROP TO 8 TO 15 PERCENT, EXCEPT OVER THE LOWER TRANS PECOS.
SOUTHWEST 20 FOOT WINDS OF 15 TO 25 MPH SUSTAINED APPEAR LIKELY IN
THE GUADALUPE MOUNTAINS WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON. SINCE IT IS UNCERTAIN
WHETHER THESE WINDS WILL BE ANY STRONGER, WILL CONTINUE WITH THE
FIRE WEATHER WATCH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING. 20 FOOT WINDS
COULD STAY UP IN THE GUADALUPES THROUGH MOST OF WEDNESDAY NIGHT, SO
THE POTENTIAL FOR CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS LASTING WELL INTO
WEDNESDAY NIGHT EXIST. A COLD FRONT WILL MOVE SOUTH INTO THE AREA
THURSDAY, AND SHOULD ALLEVIATE FIRE WEATHER CONCERNS.
