FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NW OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
902 AM PDT TUE MAY 3 2016

...CASCADE THUNDERSTORMS WITH MODEST LIGHTNING POSSIBLE TODAY...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...INCREASING ONSHORE FLOW AND A WEAK COLD
FRONT WILL BEGIN AN INLAND COOL DOWN TODAY AND CONFINE THE
THUNDERSTORM THREAT TO THE CASCADES. MUCH COOLER WEDNESDAY AS
MARINE LAYER DEEPENS. LOW PRESSURE DEVELOPS SOUTH OF THE REGION
THURSDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND FOR PROBABLY DRY WEATHER ALTHOUGH
SOME WEAK INSTABILITY MAY WRAP AROUND AND BRING SHOWERS.

.DISCUSSION...

ONSHORE FLOW CONTINUES AND WILL STRENGTHEN TOADY AND WEDNESDAY. A
SPLITTING COLD FRONT WILL ALSO DISSIPATE OVER THE AREA TODAY BUT
COULD REMAIN INTACT ENOUGH TO BRING SPOTTY WETTING RAINS LATER
TONIGHT AND WEDNESDAY. EXPECT THE THUNDERSTORM THREAT WILL BE
LIMITED TO THE CASCADES TODAY AND PERHAPS TO THE IMMEDIATE CREST
WEDNESDAY...IF AT ALL.

UPPER LOW PRESSURE WILL DIVE SOUTH WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY WITH
HIGH PRESSURE NOSING OVER THE TOP FROM THE PACIFIC TO BRING MILD
AND DRY WEATHER FOR THE UPCOMING WEEKEND. SO FAR...IT DOES NOT
APPEAR LIKE WE WILL SEE A SIGNIFICANT THERMAL TROUGH DEVELOP NOR
AND OFFSHORE WIND EVENT TO REALLY SPIKE TEMPERATURES. BUT SUBTLE
SHORT WAVES MAY WRAP AROUND THE NORTH SIDE OF THE LOW AND BRING
SOME WEAK INSTABILITY AND SHOWERS...MAINLY TO THE CASCADES. /JBONK
