FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NW OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
304 PM PDT THU JUL 31 2014

...SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS EXPECTED THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...A WEAK DISTURBANCE WILL LIKELY TRIGGER A
FEW THUNDERSTORMS WHILE MOVING NORTH ACROSS WESTERN OREGON AND
WASHINGTON LATER TODAY THROUGH EARLY FRIDAY. ANY RAIN WILL BE SPOTTY
WITH ONLY MINIMAL CHANCES FOR WETTING RAIN. SIMILAR DISTURBANCES WILL
KEEP THE THREAT OF THUNDER GOING THROUGH THE WEEKEND...THOUGH IT WILL
BE MAINLY IN THE CASCADES. TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO REMAIN NEAR
TO SLIGHTLY ABOVE NORMAL THE NEXT FEW DAYS.

.DISCUSSION...THE UPPER LEVEL RIDGE WHICH HAS DOMINATED THE WESTERN
UNITED STATES WITH ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES THE PAST FEW DAYS IS
STARTING TO ERODE...ALLOWING WEAK DISTURBANCES TO MOVE INTO THE
PACIFIC NORTHWEST. ONE SUCH DISTURBANCE IS LIFTING NORTH INTO OUR
FORECAST AREA THIS AFTERNOON...AND SHOULD ENHANCE THUNDERSTORM
DEVELOPMENT OVER THE CASCADES THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. HOWEVER
THIS SYSTEM ALSO HAS SOME MOISTURE AND INSTABILITY ALOFT...SO THERE
IS THE POSSIBILITY OF HIGH-BASED THUNDERSTORMS AS FAR WEST AS THE
COAST RANGE TONIGHT AND EARLY FRIDAY. RAINFALL SHOULD BE SPOTTY...
WITH THE CASCADES HAVING THE BEST CHANCE FOR WETTING RAIN...BUT
EVEN THESE CHANCES ARE MINIMAL.

LOOKING AT THE BIG PICTURE...EXPECT LITTLE CHANGE IN THE WEATHER THE
NEXT SEVERAL DAYS. THE MARINE LAYER MAY CONSOLIDATE AND DEEPEN A BIT
AS THE UPPER LEVEL RIDGE WEAKENS...POTENTIALLY BRINGING TEMPERATURES
DOWN A FEW DEGREES THIS WEEKEND AND EARLY NEXT WEEK. INSTABILITY WILL
LINGER OVER THE CASCADES...WITH THE THREAT OF AFTERNOON AND EVENING
THUNDERSTORMS PERSISTING THROUGH THE WEEKEND. WEAGLE
