Washington Precipitation Summary

July brought much below normal precipitation for all of Washington
state, and for many areas, July brought nothing at all.  However,
the eastern side of Washington was much drier than the western side.
But even with the very dry July, the water year values still remain
above normal for the whole state.

In western Washington, the monthly percentage of normal for
precipitation ranged from 1 percent in the Puget Sound Lowlands and
western slopes of the Cascades, to 17 percent in the Northwest
Interior.  The greatest amount of precipitation at the climate
stations for the mountains, coast and interior lowlands was 0.44
inches at Forks in the Olympics, 0.24 at Quillayute, and 0.61 inches
at Clearbrook in the Northwest Interior.

For eastern Washington, the percentage of normal for precipitation
ranged from 0 percent for all regions to just 1 percent in the
Palouse and Blue Mountains region.  The greatest amount of
precipitation at climate stations for the mountains and lowlands was
0.02 inches at Pullman in the Palouse and Blue Mountains region, and
a trace at Davenport in the Okanogan Big Bend region, and at Spokane
and Northport in the northeast region.

The outlook for August and beyond for Washington state, for the next
two weeks the outlook is for above normal precipitation.  The
monthly outlook for August is calling for below normal precipitation
for the whole state.  The three month outlook for August through
October is calling for below normal precipitation for much of
Washington, except for equal chances of above, below or near normal
precipitation for the extreme southeast corner of the state.

for regions of Washington.  The current water year began 1 October
2016 and ends 30 September 2017.

normal for a variety of locations around the state.  Occasionally
missing data at a site are estimated using observed data from
surrounding stations.
