About 1055 miles west of Saipan
About  650 miles south-southeast of Okinawa

Maximum sustained winds...85 mph
Present movement...north...350 degrees at 7 mph.

DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK

At 100 AM ChST...1500 UTC...the center of Typhoon Lan was located
near latitude 17.2 degrees North and longitude 130.0 degrees East.
Lan is moving north at 7 mph.  A slow turn to the northeast is
expected the next few days, taking Lan east of Okinawa Saturday
night, and near the main islands of Japan Saturday night and Sunday.

Maximum sustained winds remain at 85 mph. Slow intensification is
expected through Saturday, followed by a weakening trend on Sunday.

Typhoon Lan has a very large wind field, with typhoon force winds
extending outward up to 140 miles from the center. Tropical storm
force winds extend up to 420 miles southeast of the center, and up
to 240 miles northwest of the center.
