Spot Forecast for MATSAR K9 Avlanche Training Day 1...MATSAR Search and Rescue
National Weather Service Anchorage AK
723 AM AKDT Fri Mar 22 2024

Forecast is based on forecast start time of 0800 AKDT on March 22.

.DISCUSSION...Ceilings will lower this morning, with steady light
snow developing late this morning (10am-Noon). The training area
will be right on the edge of steady precipitation through the
afternoon hours, so would generally expect periods of light
precipitation, with steadier and marginally heavier precipitation
as you head to higher elevations to the north. Ceilings and
visibilities will be much higher out over the lower elevations of
the Matanuska Valley. Snow levels will rise through the day,
likely hovering somewhere around 1600 feet. So there could be a
mix of rain at the training site this afternoon. Precipitation
will taper off this evening, with ceilings/vis improving. Dry
conditions will with high clouds will prevail for Saturday. Winds
will generally be light and somewhat variable in the mountain
valleys. The prevailing flow can be found below.
