AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE GOODLAND KS
153 PM MDT TUE JUL 28 2015

.SHORT TERM...(THIS EVENING THROUGH WEDNESDAY)
ISSUED AT 153 PM MDT TUE JUL 28 2015

ACROSS THE FORECAST AREA THIS AFTERNOON...FRONTAL BOUNDARY IS
CURRENTLY LOCATED SOUTH AND EAST OF THE TRI STATE REGION WITH ONLY
LINGERING HIGH CLOUDS OVER SOUTHERN ZONES...GIVING THE AREA MAINLY
SUNNY SKIES WITH TEMPERATURES IN THE 80S...AND NORTHERLY WINDS WHICH
HAVE DIMINISHED SOME SINCE MORNING HIGHS.

GOING INTO TONIGHT...WINDS WILL CONTINUE TO SLACKEN AS SURFACE RIDGE
CONTINUES TO SHIFT SOUTH AND EAST OFF THE CENTRAL/NORTHERN ROCKIES
INTO THE PLAINS REGION. WITH THE MOVEMENT OF THE RIDGE...WINDS WILL
SHIFT MORE EASTERLY OVERNIGHT. FRONT TO OUR SOUTH BEGINS TO LIFT
BACK NORTHWARD TOWARDS MORNING. LOOKING FOR OVERNIGHT LOWS TO RANGE
FROM THE MID 50S TO THE LOW 60S...COOLEST NORTH AND WEST.

FOR WEDNESDAY...MOVEMENT OF FRONT IS BLOCKED DUE TO SURFACE
RIDGE...SO HAVE LIMITED ANY POTENTIAL RW/TRW TO THE SOUTHERN HALF OF
THE FORECAST AREA...DROPPING OFF TOWARDS SUNSET AS MODELS BRING HIGH
PRESSURE FURTHER SOUTH OVER THE REGION. BELOW NORMAL TEMPS FOR HIGHS
ON WEDNESDAY WITH RIDGE OVERHEAD...RANGING IN THE LOW TO MID 80S.

.LONG TERM...(WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY)
ISSUED AT 227 AM MDT TUE JUL 28 2015

NORTHWESTERLY FLOW ALOFT IS PERSISTENT DURING THE LONG TERM
PERIOD WITH AN UPPER LOW CIRCULATING OVER HUDSON BAY AS RIDGING
BUILDS OVER THE FOUR CORNERS REGION. THIS SETUP LOOKS TO BRING
RELATIVELY DRIER CONDITIONS TO THE FORECAST AS HIGH PRESSURE ALOFT
INFLUENCES THE HIGH PLAINS.

LOW LEVEL MOISTURE DOES SEEM TO RESIDE ACROSS THE AREA WHILE
SOUTHERLY WINDS AT THE SURFACE FILTER WARMER AIR INTO THE PLAINS.
WITH WEAK DISTURBANCES MOVING ALONG THE UPPER LEVEL RIDGE...LEFT
LOWER CHANCES FOR SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS DURING THE PERIOD.

WARM TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED FOR THE AREA THROUGHOUT THE EXTENDED
FORECAST WITH HIGHS IN THE UPPER 80S TO UPPER 90S AND LOWS IN THE
60S.
