000 FNUS54 KMAF 182001 FWFMAF Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX 301 PM CDT Thu Apr 18 2024 .DISCUSSION... The region gets a well deserved break from fire conditions this weekend through the middle part of next week with much better moisture expected. The well advertised cold front has arrived in the Permian Basin but drier air persists south/west of the Pecos River this afternoon. Light winds this afternoon and through early/mid next week keep any concerns low as well. Wetting rains are possible for some spots on Saturday and at the very least, better surface moisture should help fine fuel ERCs improve some.
