PORTLAND STARTED THE MONTH OF JULY OFF WITH SUMMER-LIKE TEMPERATURES
AND 4 STRAIGHT DAYS WITH HIGHS IN THE 80S, INCLUDING INDEPENDENCE
DAY. SOME COOLER AIR ARRIVED FOR THE 6TH THRU 8TH, ALONG WITH LOWER
HUMIDITY. THE WARMTH AND HUMIDITY BRIEFLY RETURNED, BEFORE COOLER
AIR ARRIVED AGAIN. THERE WERE TWO STRAIGHT DAYS THAT THE TEMPERATURE
DID NOT RISE OUT OF THE 60S IN MID JULY, BUT THE WARMTH AND HUMIDITY
GRADUALLY RETURNED BRINGING ABOUT A WEEK OF SUSTAINED WARMTH. A COLD
FRONT BROUGHT A MUCH COOLER AIR MASS INTO THE AREA ON JULY 23, WITH
THE COOL, DRY CONDITIONS LASTING THROUGH THE REST OF THE MONTH.
OVERALL THE MONTH OF JULY WAS NOTABLY DRY, WITH SLIGHTLY MORE THAN 1
INCH OF RAIN FALLING DURING THE MONTH. ALTHOUGH THERE WERE PERIODS
OF WARMTH, THERE WERE NO PERIODS OF TRULY HOT WEATHER, WITH NO DAYS
REACHING 90 DEGREES.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 69.0 DEGREES WHICH WAS 0.1
DEGREES BELOW NORMAL AND THE COOLEST JULY SINCE 2009. IN FACT, THERE
WERE 17 DAYS THAT THE TEMPERATURE DROPPED INTO THE 50S, THE MOST
SUCH DAYS SINCE 2001. THE COOLEST JULY ON RECORD WAS IN 1962 WHEN
THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS 64.0 DEGREES. THE WARMEST WAS IN 2011
WHEN THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS 72.7 DEGREES.

A TOTAL OF 1.05 INCHES OF RAIN FELL, WHICH WAS 2.56 INCHES BELOW
NORMAL AND THE 10TH DRIEST ON RECORD. THE HEAVIEST RAIN WAS ON JULY
18 WHEN 0.57 INCHES FELL. THE DRIEST JULY ON RECORD WAS IN 1965 WHEN
ONLY 0.61 INCHES WAS MEASURED FOR THE MONTH. THE WETTEST WAS IN 1915
WHEN 10.84 INCHES FELL. THE FOLLOWING TABLE LISTS THE DRIEST JULYS
