Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Central/Northern Vermont and
Northern New York
National Weather Service Burlington VT
506 AM EDT Mon Oct 23 2017

...Dry Today With Widespread Rain Tuesday Into Early Wednesday...

.DISCUSSION...
Today will be the last day of dry weather across the area as high
pressure moves east of the area. We will continue to have above
normal temperatures with highs in the upper 60s to middle
70s...but increasing moisture should keep afternoon relative
humidities in the 40 percent range. The atmosphere should moisten
up enough for some rain showers across parts of northern New york
and southern Vermont tonight...but the more widespread rainfall is
expected Tuesday into Wednesday morning when a concentrated north
to south oriented band of heavy rain develops over the northern
Adirondacks Tuesday afternoon and gradually moves east Tuesday
night into Wednesday morning. Since the moisture is originating
from the southeast United States...a high water content will exist
and locations from the northern Adirondacks eastward to the
Connecticut River Valley will see total rainfall amounts in the 1
to 2 inch range Tuesday into Wednesday. This should help with the
extended period of dry weather we have been experiencing. In
addition to the heavier precipitation expected...wind gusts in the
30 to 40 mph are expected tonight across parts of northern New
York and across Vermont Tuesday and Tuesday night.
