FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NW OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
927 AM PDT FRI AUG 29 2014

...GUSTY WEST WINDS IN THE CASCADES LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING...
...COOLING TREND TO LAST THROUGH LABOR DAY WEEKEND...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...MOIST ONSHORE FLOW RESULTED IN FULL HUMIDITY
RECOVERY ALONG THE COAST AND COAST RANGE LAST NIGHT...AS WELL AS FOR
THE CASCADE FOOTHILLS. THE MARINE LAYER WILL CONTINUE TO DEEPEN WITH
COOLER TEMPERATURES AND SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER RH EXPECTED TODAY VERSUS
YESTERDAY. GUSTY WESTERLY RIDGETOP AND GORGE WINDS WILL RESUME LATER
TODAY AND CONTINUE INTO THIS EVENING. EXPECT BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES
TO CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THIS LABOR DAY WEEKEND.

.DISCUSSION...A DRY COLD FRONT MOVED ACROSS THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST
YESTERDAY...AND THE MARINE LAYER HAS DEEPENED SIGNIFICANTLY BEHIND
IT WITH PLENTY OF LOW CLOUDS BANKING UP AGAINST THE CASCADE FOOTHILLS
NORTH OF MOUNT JEFFERSON. THE MARINE LAYER WILL CONTINUE TO DEEPEN
DUE TO INCREASED MIXING THIS AFTERNOON...THEN REMAIN DEEP WITH EVEN
MORE LOW CLOUDS PUSHING INTO THE WILLAMETTE NF TONIGHT AND SATURDAY
MORNING. NORTH COASTAL AND CASCADE FOOTHILL AREAS ARE SEEING SOME
AREAS OF DRIZZLE...BUT WETTING RAINS ARE NOT LIKELY IN OUR DISTRICT
TODAY. ANOTHER COLD FRONT IS APPROACHING THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST COAST
TODAY...AND WILL MOVE THROUGH LATER THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING...
BRINGING ANOTHER SURGE OF WESTERLY WINDS OVER THE CASCADES AND
THROUGH THE COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE. THIS FRONT WILL ALSO ENHANCE RAIN
CHANCES...ESPECIALLY ZONES 601...602...AND WEST 660. AN UPPER LEVEL
TROUGH WILL SETTLE OVER THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST THIS WEEKEND...KEEPING
TEMPERATURES BELOW NORMAL WITH OCCASIONAL RAIN CHANCES THROUGH LABOR
DAY. WEAGLE
