FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NW OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
230 PM PDT TUE SEP 16 2014

...SOME PRECIPITATION POSSIBLE WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND THURSDAY...
...MUCH WARMER AND DRIER OVER THE WEEKEND...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...MILD SOUTH FLOW ALOFT WILL BE OVER THE
FORECAST AREA WEDNESDAY. THE NEXT WEATHER SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO
BRING SOME PRECIPITATION WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND THURSDAY. HOWEVER...THE
SYSTEM WILL WEAKEN WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND THURSDAY AS IT APPROACHES THE
COAST. A MUCH WARMER AND DRIER PATTERN DEVELOPS SATURDAY...WITH THE
POTENTIAL FOR A SHORT-LIVED OFFSHORE EPISODE.

.DISCUSSION...MILD SOUTH FLOW ALOFT WILL BE OVER THE FORECAST AREA
WEDNESDAY. THE AIR MASS MAY HAVE JUST ENOUGH INSTABILITY FOR A SMALL
THREAT OF AFTERNOON THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE SOUTH CASCADE ZONES. THE
NEXT SYSTEM IMPACTS THE AREA WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND THURSDAY...BUT WILL
STRETCH APART AND WEAKEN AS IT APPROACHES THE COAST. RAINFALL
AMOUNTS REMAIN SOMEWHAT QUESTIONABLE...BUT THE COASTAL ZONES STAND
THE BEST CHANCE OF GETTING WETTING RAIN AMOUNTS. HIGH PRESSURE ALOFT
QUICKLY DEVELOPS OVER THE NORTHEAST PACIFIC FRIDAY FOR THE START OF
A WARMING AND DRYING TREND. LATEST GUIDANCE SHOWS A THERMAL TROUGH
DEVELOPING ALONG THE SOUTH OREGON COAST FRIDAY EVENING THEN
EXPANDING NORTH FRIDAY NIGHT. ALTHOUGH OFFSHORE LOW-LEVEL FLOW IS
EXPECTED FRIDAY NIGHT AND SATURDAY...THIS EPISODE...SHOULD IT
OCCUR...WILL NOT BE NEARLY AS STRONG OR LAST AS LONG AS THE PREVIOUS
EVENT. MODELS SHOW THE THERMAL TROUGH SHIFTING TO THE CASCADES BY
SUNDAY AFTERNOON.
