Fire Weather Planning Forecast for NW Oregon and SW Washington
National Weather Service Portland OR
247 PM PDT Mon Oct 16 2017

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...High pressure over the region today will
break down on Tuesday, giving way to a much more active weather
pattern for the second half of the week. Expect periods of rainy
and windy conditions from Tuesday through next weekend.

.DISCUSSION...A ridge of high pressure remains over the Pac NW
today, bringing one more dry and sunny day before a significant
weather pattern shift occurs starting Tuesday. An upper level
shortwave trough will move through Tuesday, bringing a cold front
onshore during the day. This will bring a decent shot of rain and
breezy winds to most of the region. A broad upper level trough
will move onshore along the British Columbia coast on Thursday and
Friday, which will bring a significant frontal system into the
Pac NW. There will be a period of rain Wednesday, but the main
impacts will be to the north of our district. The SW Washington
and far NW Oregon zones are currently expected to see a glancing
blow, with less impacts further south. However, a cold front will
move through on Thursday, bringing a more significant rain event
to most or all of the region. There will also be very gusty SW
winds, especially for the coast and Coast Range later Wed into
Thu. After a lull on Friday, another significant rain event is
likely over the weekend. Pyle
