FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NW OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
114 PM PDT TUE JUL 22 2014

...ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE THROUGH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON...
...WETTING RAINS LIKELY NORTH...POSSIBLE SOUTH...BY THURSDAY MORNING...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...A STALLED FRONTAL ZONE CONTINUES TO PROVIDE THE
FOCUS FOR A FEW SHOWERS TO DEVELOP THIS AFTERNOON ACROSS THE DISTRICT.
ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS ARE DEVELOPING NEAR THE CASCADE CREST...BUT MOST
ACTIVITY WILL BE CONFINED EAST OF THE CREST. A SPRINGLIKE LOW PRESSURE
SYSTEM FROM THE GULF OF ALASKA WILL CAUSE COOL SHOWERY CONDITIONS WEDNESDAY
WITH SOME SCATTERED WET THUNDERSTORMS. A RETURN TO NORMAL...THEN PERHAPS
ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES IS EXPECTED LATER THIS WEEK INTO THE WEEKEND.

.DISCUSSION...THE SAME FRONTAL ZONE WHICH BROUGHT WETTING RAINS TO PORTIONS
OF NORTHWEST OREGON AND SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON EARLY THIS MORNING REMAINS
STALLED NEAR THE CASCADES THIS AFTERNOON. THIS FRONT IS STILL PROVIDING
PLENTY OF CLOUD COVER...SOMEWHAT LIMITING THE THUNDERSTORM POTENTIAL THIS
AFTERNOON ALONG THE CASCADES. THEREFORE THE STRONGEST THUNDERSTORM
POTENTIAL THROUGH THIS EVENING APPEARS TO BE CONFINED TO SOUTHEAST OREGON.
HOWEVER ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS ARE DEVELOPING ALONG THE EAST SLOPES OF THE
CASCADES THIS AFTERNOON...SO A STRAY THUNDERSTORM STILL CANNOT BE RULED OUT
FOR ZONES 607/608. OTHERWISE EXPECT PARTLY TO MOSTLY CLOUDY SKIES WITH
SCATTERED SHOWERS THROUGH THIS EVENING. AN UNSEASONABLY STRONG AND COOL
UPPER LEVEL LOW NEAR THE BRITISH COLUMBIA COAST WILL THEN MOVE THROUGH
WASHINGTON WEDNESDAY...BRINGING SPRINGLIKE SHOWERS AND PERHAPS SOME
SCATTERED WET THUNDERSTORMS. TEMPERATURES WEDNESDAY MAY STRUGGLE TO REACH
70 DEGREES FOR THE INLAND VALLEYS...SOME 10 TO 15 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL.
HOWEVER A QUICK REBOUND TO NEAR TO ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES IS EXPECTED BY
THE WEEKEND...AS A STRONG UPPER LEVEL RIDGE BUILDS IN FROM THE GREAT BASIN.
