SATELLITE INTERPRETATION MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TIYAN GU
1200 PM CHST SAT JUN 24 2017

WESTERN NORTH PACIFIC BETWEEN THE EQUATOR AND 25N FROM 130E TO 180.

AN UPPER-LEVEL TROUGH IS CURRENTLY PASSING THROUGH THE MARIANAS ALONG
AN AXIS THAT STRETCHES FROM YAP ISLAND THROUGH GUAM AND SAIPAN TO AN
UPPER LOW NEAR 19N148E. THE TROUGH AXIS IS HELPING TO GENERATE PATCHY
VERY ISOLATED THUNDERSTORM CELLS THROUGH THE AREA. IT IS ALSO AIDING
THE FORMATION OF AN INVERTED TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE ALONG ITS EASTERN
PERIPHERY...JUST TO THE EAST OF THE MARIANAS. A WEAK SURFACE CIRCULATION
CAN BE OBSERVED NEAR 12N148E ALONG WITH AN AREA OF SCATTERED SHOWERS
AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS FROM 12N TO 19N BETWEEN 147E AND 153E. THIS
AREA IS EXPECTED TO AFFECT THE MARIANAS TONIGHT AND SUNDAY.

ELSEWHERE A WEAK SURFACE TROUGH STRETCHING NORTHWEST TO SOUTHEAST AND
SOUTH OF THE REPUBLIC OF PALAU IS HELPING TO GENERATE SOME AREAS OF
SCATTERED SHOWERS AND SOME PATCHY THUNDERSTORMS PRIMARILY SOUTH OF 4N
TO THE EQUATOR BETWEEN 130E AND 142E.

FINALLY...WEAK REMNANTS OF THE INTER-TROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE (ITCZ)
WITHIN PRIMARILY TRADE-WIND CONVERGENCE CAN BE SEEN AS A 50 TO 100 MILE
BAND OF SCATTERED SHOWERS WITH A COUPLE OF EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS LOCATED
SOUTH OF POHNPEI AND KOSRAE AND INTO THE MARSHALLS ROUGHLY FROM 1N155E
TO 5N170E AND EAST OF THE DATELINE AROUND 8N.
