Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Duluth MN
643 PM CDT MON JUN 20 2016

.SHORT TERM...(This evening through Tuesday)
Issued at 358 PM CDT Mon Jun 20 2016

At 330 PM, skies were mostly clear across the Northland. There was
some scattered CU, but most of the CU had remained in Canada.
Temperatures were generally in the 70s. The big story today was
the strong winds, gusting at times into the 30 to 40 mph range in
spots.

Things have quieted down considerably from the volatile weather on
Sunday. We are looking at mostly clear skies overnight. The most
clouds will likely be in the Arrowhead later in the night and into
the first part of Tuesday, as an area of clouds in Saskatchewan
and Manitoba drops southeastward into the area. Otherwise it
should be mostly clear tonight and mostly sunny on Tuesday. Highs
will be in the 70s on Tuesday.

.LONG TERM...(Tuesday night through Monday)
Issued at 358 PM CDT Mon Jun 20 2016

Wednesday is our next chance for precipitation as a potent shortwave
slides southeast through the northwest flow aloft. This shortwave
should move through the forecast area along with a fairly strong
surface low, moving from southeast Saskatchewan early Wednesday
morning across northeast North Dakota, and northern Minnesota into
northern Wisconsin by late Wednesday night. This will bring a round
of showers and thunderstorms across the area during the day on
Wednesday and Wednesday night before ending Thursday morning.

Precipitation chances return once again for the weekend, beginning
Friday night and continuing through at least Saturday night in a
strong warm air advection regime ahead of an approaching strong
upper low. Highs should rise into the 80s for at least part of the
area once again for Friday and Saturday. Then, once the upper low
moves overhead we have additional shower chances during the day on
Sunday with cooler temperatures and highs back in the 70s, which
continue through Monday.
