...HOT AND HUMID CONDITIONS OVER MUCH OF THE NORTHLAND MONDAY...

.SOUTHERLY FLOW WILL BRING CONSIDERABLE HEAT AND HUMIDITY TO THE
NORTHLAND MONDAY. MUCH OF NORTHEAST MINNESOTA AND NORTHWEST
WISCONSIN CAN EXPECT HIGH TEMPERATURES TO REACH THE UPPER 80S AND
LOW 90S MONDAY. THE COMBINATION OF HIGH HUMIDITY...WITH DEW POINT
TEMPERATURES IN THE LOWER 70S...WILL CAUSE THE AIR TEMPERATURES TO
FEEL EVEN HOTTER. HEAT INDICES WILL APPROACH OR REACH AROUND 100
DEGREES OVER MUCH OF NORTHEAST MINNESOTA AND NORTHWEST WISCONSIN.
RELIEF WILL COME LATE MONDAY EVENING WITH SUNSET...AND OVERNIGHT
INTO TUESDAY WITH THE PASSAGE OF A COLD FRONT.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN DULUTH HAS ISSUED A HEAT
ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TO 9 PM CDT MONDAY.

* LOCATION...PARTS OF NORTHEAST MINNESOTA AND NORTHWEST
  WISCONSIN...MAINLY NEAR AND SOUTH OF HIGHWAY 2...BUT ALSO
  INCLUDING THE IRON RANGE.

* TIMING...LATE MONDAY MORNING THROUGH MONDAY EVENING.

* TEMPERATURE...HIGHS IN THE UPPER 80S TO LOW 90S.

* HEAT INDICES...THE UPPER 90S TO AROUND 100 DEGREES.

* IMPACTS...THIS IS THE FIRST SIGNIFICANT HEAT WAVE OF THE
  SEASON...IN A YEAR THAT HAS BEEN COLDER THAN NORMAL. MANY WILL
  NOT BE ACCLIMATED TO THE HEAT. THESE CONDITIONS MAY LEAD TO A
  HEIGHTENED RISK OF HEAT RELATED STRESS AND ILLNESS... ESPECIALLY
  FOR THE YOUNG AND ELDERLY...AND THOSE WITHOUT AIR CONDITIONING.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A HEAT ADVISORY MEANS THAT A PERIOD OF HOT TEMPERATURES IS
EXPECTED. THE COMBINATION OF HOT TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY
WILL COMBINE TO CREATE A SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE
POSSIBLE. DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS...STAY IN AN AIR-CONDITIONED
ROOM...STAY OUT OF THE SUN...AND CHECK UP ON RELATIVES AND
NEIGHBORS.

TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND
HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS
IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS. ANYONE OVERCOME  BY
HEAT SHOULD BE MOVED TO A COOL AND SHADED LOCATION. HEAT STROKE IS
AN EMERGENCY...CALL 9 1 1.
