TODAY...

.SOUTHERLY FLOW WILL BRING CONSIDERABLE HEAT AND HUMIDITY TO THE
NORTHLAND TODAY. MUCH OF NORTHEAST MINNESOTA AND NORTHWEST
WISCONSIN CAN EXPECT HIGH TEMPERATURES TO REACH THE UPPER 80S WITH
A FEW SPOTS REACHING 90. THE COMBINATION OF HIGH HUMIDITY... WITH
DEW POINT TEMPERATURES IN THE LOWER 70S...WILL CAUSE HEAT INDICES
TO APPROACH OR REACH THE UPPER 90S FROM GRAND RAPIDS TO THE
BRAINERD LAKES AND EAST TO THE TWIN PORTS AND THE ST. CROIX RIVER
VALLEY. RELIEF WILL COME LATE TONIGHT OR TUESDAY MORNING WITH
COOLER TEMPERATURES.

ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM CDT THIS EVENING.

* LOCATION...THE GRAND RAPIDS AREA TO THE BRAINERD LAKES AND
  EAST TO THE TWIN PORTS AND THE ST. CROIX RIVER VALLEY.

* TIMING...THIS AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING.

* TEMPERATURE...HIGHS IN THE UPPER 80S TO NEAR 90.

* HEAT INDICES...THE UPPER 90S TO AROUND 100.

* IMPACTS...THIS IS THE FIRST SIGNIFICANT HEAT WAVE OF THE
  SEASON. THESE CONDITIONS MAY LEAD TO A HEIGHTENED RISK OF HEAT
  RELATED STRESS AND ILLNESS...ESPECIALLY FOR THE YOUNG AND
  ELDERLY...AND THOSE WITHOUT AIR CONDITIONING.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A HEAT ADVISORY MEANS THAT A PERIOD OF HOT TEMPERATURES IS
EXPECTED. THE COMBINATION OF HOT TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY
WILL COMBINE TO CREATE A SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE
POSSIBLE. DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS...STAY IN AN AIR-CONDITIONED
ROOM...STAY OUT OF THE SUN...AND CHECK UP ON RELATIVES AND
NEIGHBORS.

TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND
HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS
