...MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW FOR THE SOUTH SHORE IN NORTHWEST
WISCONSIN TODAY INTO THURSDAY MORNING...

.A COLD FRONT WILL MOVE THROUGH THE LAKE SUPERIOR REGION TODAY.
COLD NORTHERLY FLOW WILL DEVELOP OVER WESTERN LAKE SUPERIOR LATE
THIS MORNING AND EARLY THIS AFTERNOON...SETTING THE STAGE FOR
MODERATE TO HEAVY LAKE EFFECT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS FOR PORTIONS OF
NORTHWEST WISCONSIN THROUGH THURSDAY MORNING. THE GREATEST
SNOWFALL INTENSITY WILL OCCUR THIS AFTERNOON AND THIS EVENING.
WIDESPREAD SNOWFALL TOTALS OF 3 TO 6 INCHES ARE EXPECTED...BUT
THE NORTHERN PORTIONS OF ASHLAND AND IRON COUNTIES CAN EXPECT
ABOUT 6 TO 12 INCHES. TRAVEL COULD BE DIFFICULT THIS AFTERNOON
AND TONIGHT DUE TO THE ACCUMULATING SNOW AND LOW VISIBILITY IN
THE HEAVIER SNOW BANDS. THE LAKE EFFECT SNOW WILL GRADUALLY
DIMINISH TONIGHT AND THURSDAY MORNING.

AFTERNOON TO NOON CST THURSDAY...

* LOCATION...ASHLAND AND IRON COUNTIES.

* TIMING...LAKE EFFECT SNOW WILL DEVELOP EARLY THIS AFTERNOON
  AND INCREASE IN INTENSITY LATE THIS AFTERNOON. SNOWFALL
  INTENSITY WILL PEAK LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND THIS EVENING...
  THEN GRADUALLY DIMINISH INTO THURSDAY MORNING.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...THE NORTHERN HALVES OF IRON AND ASHLAND
  COUNTY CAN EXPECT WIDESPREAD TOTALS OF 6 TO 9 INCHES. THE
  STATE HIGHWAYS 13...17...AND 169 IN THE AREA NEAR AND BETWEEN
  MARENGO...MELLEN...UPSON...AND GURNEY WILL SEE THE HIGHEST
  TOTALS...AS MUCH AS 12 INCHES.

* WINDS/VISIBILITY...GUSTY NORTH WINDS AND HEAVY SNOWFALL RATES
  WILL REDUCE VISIBILITIES TO A QUARTER MILE OR LESS AT TIMES.

* IMPACTS...TRAVEL CONDITIONS WILL DETERIORATE LATE THIS
  AFTERNOON AND THIS EVENING. WEATHER CONDITIONS WILL GRADUALLY
  IMPROVE THURSDAY MORNING.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF LAKE-
EFFECT SNOW ARE FORECAST THAT WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR
IMPOSSIBLE. LAKE-EFFECT SNOW SHOWERS TYPICALLY ALIGN THEMSELVES
IN BANDS AND WILL LIKELY BE INTENSE ENOUGH TO DROP 1 TO SEVERAL
INCHES OF SNOW PER HOUR FOR SEVERAL HOURS. VISIBILITIES VARY
GREATLY AND CAN DROP TO ZERO WITHIN MINUTES.  TRAVEL IS STRONGLY
DISCOURAGED. COMMERCE COULD BE SEVERELY IMPACTED. IF YOU MUST
TRAVEL...KEEP AN EXTRA FLASHLIGHT...FOOD...AND WATER IN YOUR
VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY.

  INCREASE IN INTENSITY THIS AFTERNOON. SNOWFALL INTENSITY WILL
  PEAK DURING THE MIDDLE OF THE AFTERNOON...THEN GRADUALLY
  DIMINISH THIS EVENING AND OVERNIGHT.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...WIDESPREAD 4 TO 6 INCHES OVER NORTHEAST
  DOUGLAS COUNTY AND MUCH OF BAYFIELD COUNTY. THE HIGHEST
  AMOUNTS...ABOUT 6 TO 8 INCHES...CAN BE EXPECTED OVER THE
  HIGHWAY 13 CORRIDOR IN NORTHERN BAYFIELD COUNTY.

* WINDS/VISIBILITY...GUSTY NORTH WINDS WILL REDUCE VISIBILITY IN
  THE HEAVIER SNOW BANDS TO A HALF MILE OR LESS AT TIMES.

* IMPACTS...TRAVEL CONDITIONS WILL DETERIORATE LATE THIS MORNING
  AND THIS AFTERNOON. WEATHER CONDITIONS WILL GRADUALLY IMPROVE
  LATE THIS AFTERNOON INTO TONIGHT.
