URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE

...SNOW SHOWERS CONTINUE ALONG THE SOUTH SHORE THIS MORNING...

.VERY COLD AIR BLOWING ACROSS THE RELATIVELY WARMER WATERS OF
LAKE SUPERIOR WILL CONTINUE TO BRING LAKE EFFECT SNOW SHOWERS TO
THE SOUTH SHORE OF LAKE SUPERIOR THIS MORNING. A FEW SHOWERS MAY
BRING A PERIOD OF HEAVY SNOW AT TIMES. THE HEAVIEST SNOWFALL WILL
BE ALONG THE GOGEBIC RANGE... FROM BIRCH HILL AND ODANAH TO
HURLEY. THE SNOW SHOWERS ARE EXPECTED TO GRADUALLY DIMINISH IN
INTENSITY THIS MORNING AND END BY THIS AFTERNOON. TOTAL SNOW
ACCUMULATIONS COULD EXCEED 20 INCHES OR EVEN A LITTLE MORE IN THE
GILE...MONTREAL AND HURLEY AREA. ROAD CONDITIONS WILL REMAIN POOR
THROUGH MUCH OF THIS MORNING.

* LOCATION...NORTHERN SECTIONS OF ASHLAND AND IRON COUNTIES...
  INCLUDING MELLEN...HURLEY...UPSON AND GURNEY.

* TIMING...HEAVY SNOW EARLY THIS MORNING WILL GRADUALLY DIMINISH
  TO LIGHT SNOW THIS MORNING...THEN TO FLURRIES THIS AFTERNOON.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...8 TO 16 INCHES IN NORTHERN ASHLAND AND IRON
  COUNTIES...WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS OF OVER 20 INCHES TOWARD
  GILE... MONTREAL AND HURLEY. GILE HAS ALREADY REPORTED 21 INCHES
  AS OF 3 AM.

* WINDS/VISIBILITY...VISIBILITIES WILL FALL TO LESS THAN A
  QUARTER MILE AT TIMES. NORTHWEST WINDS OF 20 TO 30 MPH WILL
  ALSO PRODUCE BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW.

* IMPACTS...TRAVEL CONDITIONS WILL REMAIN POOR ALONG STATE
  HIGHWAYS 13 AND 77...AND ACROSS U.S. HIGHWAY 2. WISCONSIN DOT
  REPORTS HIGHWAYS 2...51 AND 13 WERE ALL SNOW COVERED.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

THIS LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS SNOW WILL
MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS. LAKE EFFECT SNOW SHOWERS TYPICALLY
ALIGN THEMSELVES IN BANDS...WITH A WIDE RANGE OF SNOWFALL
INTENSITY AND SNOWFALL AMOUNTS. VISIBILITIES WILL VARY GREATLY
OVER SHORT DISTANCES. IF YOU TRAVEL...KEEP A FLASHLIGHT...FOOD...
AND WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY.

  POSSIBLE.

* WINDS/VISIBILITY...VISIBILITIES WILL FALL TO LESS THAN A HALF
  MILE AT TIMES EARLY THIS MORNING. NORTHWEST WINDS OF 20 TO 30
  MPH WILL ALSO PRODUCE BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW.

* IMPACTS...TRAVEL CONDITIONS WILL REMAIN POOR ALONG STATE
