Open Lake Forecast for Lake Superior
National Weather Service Marquette MI
400 AM EDT Sun May 5 2024

For waters beyond 5 nautical miles of shore on Lake Superior.

Waves are the significant wave height - the average of the
highest 1/3 of the wave spectrum. Occasional wave height is the
average of the highest 1/10 of the wave spectrum.

.SYNOPSIS...Ridging at 30.1 inches returns across the lake today
then shifts east as a broad 29.2 inch low pressure develops on
the Northern Plains on Monday. A strong pressure gradient over
western Lake Superior begins to set up Tuesday morning as a
deepening 29.0 inch low pushes eastward against 30.0 inch ridging
over far northern Ontario. This gradient loosens into Wednesday as
the Northern Plains low weakens and a 29.5 and a 29.4 inch low
ejecting out of the Plains move south of Lake Superior. After a
brief window of height rises late in the day Wednesday, another
29.4 inch low moves from the Central Plains into the Lower Great
Lakes early Thursday.
