...CHANGES TO ACTION STAGE...FLOOD STAGE AND FLOOD SEVERITY
CATEGORIES FOR THE BEAVER CREEK AT NEW HARTFORD IA...EFFECTIVE MAY
16 2016 AT 12 PM CDT...

PER COORDINATION WITH LOCAL OFFICIALS...THE NWS IN DES MOINES WILL
CHANGE THE ACTION STAGE...FLOOD STAGE...MODERATE FLOOD STAGE AND
MAJOR FLOOD STAGE FOR THE BEAVER CREEK AT NEW HARTFORD IA /SITE ID
OF NHRI4/...EFFECTIVE AT THE DATE AND TIME MENTIONED ABOVE. THE
MAIN REASON FOR THESE CHANGES IS DUE TO FLOOD PROTECTION
ACTIVITIES WITHIN THE CITY OF NEW HARTFORD.

AS HAS BEEN THE CASE FOR NHRI4...FORECASTS AND WARNINGS WILL
CONTINUE TO BE VALID ALONG THE REACH OF THE BEAVER CREEK EXTENDING
FROM THE CONFLUENCE JOHNSON CREEK /NEAR PARKERSBURG/ TO THE CEDAR
RIVER.

THE NWS WILL PROVIDE RIVER FORECASTS WHEN THE OBSERVED OR FORECAST
STAGES GO ABOVE THE ACTION STAGE. IN ADDITION...THE NWS WILL ISSUE
RIVER FLOOD WARNINGS AND FOLLOW-UP RIVER FLOOD STATEMENTS WHEN THE
OBSERVED OR FORECAST STAGES GO ABOVE THE FLOOD STAGE. BELOW ARE
THE NEW STAGE THRESHOLDS FOR NHRI4...ALONG WITH THE CHANGES FROM
THE PRESENT VALUES

* ACTION STAGE...11 FT. INCREASE OF 2 FT.
* FLOOD STAGE AND MINOR FLOODING...12.5 FT. INCREASE OF 0.5 FT.
* MODERATE FLOODING: 14 FT. INCREASE OF 1.0 FT.
* MAJOR FLOODING...15 FT. INCREASE OF 1.0 FT.


THE BEAVER CREEK AT NEW HARTFORD IS A REAL-TIME U.S. GEOLOGICAL
SURVEY /USGS/ STREAMGAGE WHICH PROVIDES STAGE AND DISCHARGE DATA.
THIS STREAMGAGE HAS A PERIOD OF RECORD BACK TO 1946. IT IS
MAINTAINED BY THE USGS IOWA WATER SCIENCE CENTER AND IS FUNDED BY
COOPERATIVELY BY THE U.S. ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS ROCK ISLAND
DISTRICT... AS WELL AS BY THE USGS WATER SCIENCE CENTER IN IOWA
CITY.


...CONCLUDING REMARKS...

AS WITH OTHER NWS RIVER FORECAST POINTS...RIVER FORECASTS FOR THE
ABOVE LOCATIONS WILL BE AVAILABLE ON THE NWS ADVANCED HYDROLOGIC
PREDICTION SERVICE /AHPS/ WEBSITE. IN ADDITION...RIVER FORECASTS
FOR THESE LOCATIONS WILL BE UPDATED AS NEEDED WHILE THE STREAM
REMAINS AT OR ABOVE THE FORECAST ISSUANCE STAGE. AT A MINIMUM...
THE RIVER FORECASTS WILL BE UPDATED ONCE PER DAY IN THE MORNING...
WHEN EITHER THE OBSERVED OR FORECAST STAGE IS AT OR ABOVE THE
FORECAST ISSUANCE STAGE.
