AUGUST BEGAN WITH SOME WARM WEATHER, WITH THE DAYTIME HIGH REACHING
89 DEGREES ON EACH OF THE FIRST 3 DAYS OF THE MONTH. ALTHOUGH
AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES WERE WARM, NIGHTTIME TEMPERATURES COOLED INTO
THE 50S. THIS ULTIMATELY PROVED TO BE A TREND FOR MOST OF THE MONTH,
WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES NEAR OR ABOVE NORMAL AND LOW TEMPERATURES
BELOW NORMAL, INDICATIVE OF PERSISTENTLY LOW HUMIDITY. A BREAK FROM
THIS TREND OCCURRED ON THE 18TH WHEN A FRONTAL SYSTEM BROUGHT MORE
THAN 1.5 INCHES OF RAIN WITH TEMPERATURES STAYING IN THE 60S. THE
HOTTEST TEMPERATURE OF THE MONTH CAME ON AUGUST 22 WHEN THE
TEMPERATURE HIT 91 DEGREES, THE ONLY DAY TO REACH 90 DEGREES THIS
AUGUST. IT WOULD BE THE LAST WARM DAY OF THE MONTH, AS COOLER AND
DRIER AIR WOULD MOVE IN FOR THE LAST WEEK OF THE MONTH.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 67.3 DEGREES WHICH WAS 1.2
DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. THE COOLEST AUGUST ON RECORD WAS 1903 WHEN THE
AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS 61.1 DEGREES. THE WARMEST WAS IN 1872 WHEN
IT WAS 73.5 DEGREES.

A TOTAL OF 3.09 INCHES OF RAIN FELL WHICH WAS 0.09 INCHES BELOW
NORMAL. MORE THAN HALF OF THIS RAIN FELL ON A SINGLE DAY WHEN 1.69
INCHES WAS MEASURED ON AUGUST 18. THE DRIEST AUGUST ON RECORD WAS IN
1996 WHEN ONLY 0.06 INCHES WAS RECORDED. THE WETTEST WAS IN 1892
WHEN 9.00 INCHES FELL.

THERE WERE NO DAILY RECORDS SET OR TIED IN AUGUST 2017.
