THE COLD AND SNOWY WEATHER THAT BEGAN AT THE END OF JANUARY
CONTINUED UNABATED THROUGH FEBRUARY. IN FACT... FROM JANUARY 24
THROUGH FEBRUARY 25 PORTLAND NEVER WENT MORE THAN 2 DAYS WITHOUT
MEASURABLE SNOWFALL. IT WAS AN EXCEPTIONAL MONTH OF CONSISTENTLY
COLD AND SNOWY WEATHER. IT RANKED AS THE COLDEST FEBRUARY ON RECORD
IN JUST ABOUT EVERY WAY IT CAN BE MEASURED. THE ONLY DAY IN THE
MONTH THAT WAS ABOVE NORMAL WAS FEBRUARY 22 WHEN THE TEMPERATURE
SOARED TO 35 DEGREES, THE HIGHEST OF THE MONTH.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 13.8 DEGREES WHICH WAS
11.7 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. THIS WAS THE COLDEST FEBRUARY ON RECORD,
BEATING FEBRUARY 1979 BY ALMOST 2 DEGREES. IT WAS ALSO THE COLDEST
AVERAGE MINIMUM TEMPERATURE, BEATING 1967 BY ALMOST 2 DEGREES.
AVERAGE MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE WAS SECOND PLACE BEHIND 1979. THE
WARMEST FEBRUARY ON RECORD WAS 1981 WHEN THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS
32.3 DEGREES.

0.44 INCHES BELOW NORMAL. THE HEAVIEST PRECIPITATION FELL ON
FEBRUARY 2 WHEN 0.89 INCHES WAS RECORDED IN A SNOWSTORM. THE WETTEST
FEBRUARY ON RECORD WAS 1900 WHEN 9.25 INCHES FELL. THE DRIEST WAS
1987 WITH ONLY 0.04 INCHES.

SNOWFALL FOR THE MONTH TOTALED 34.6 INCHES WHICH WAS 22.5 INCHES
ABOVE NORMAL AND THE THIRD STRAIGHT FEBRUARY TO FINISH AT LEAST 20
INCHES ABOVE NORMAL. THE HEAVIEST SNOW FELL ON FEBRUARY 2 WHEN 9.1
INCHES WAS MEASURED. FEBRUARY 2015 RANKED AS THE 14TH SNOWIEST ON
RECORD. SNOWFALL RECORDS GO BACK TO 1882. THE SNOWIEST FEBRUARY WAS
1969 WHEN 61.2 INCHES FELL. THE LEAST SNOWY FEBRUARY WAS 1941 WITH
ONLY 0.3 INCHES.

THERE WERE 14 DAYS IN FEBRUARY THAT SAW MEASURABLE SNOWFALL. THIS
TIED FOR THE 3RD MOST ON RECORD. THERE WERE ALSO 10 DAYS WITH 1 INCH
OR MORE OF SNOW, TIED FOR THE 2ND MOST ON RECORD. THE FOLLOWING TABLE
