...Potentially significant flooding next week over southern areas
of the St. Louis Hydrologic Service Area...

Several days of heavy rainfall over southern portions of the the
St. Louis service area will create the potential of significant
flooding over the streams and rivers of this area. This affected
area would include rivers south of I-44 in Missouri and south of
I-70 in Illinois. Between now and Tuesday morning, we could see
between 5 and 8 inches of total rainfall over parts of the
following basins: the Meramec River, the Big River, the St.
Francis River, the Black River, the Kaskaskia River, and the
Mississippi River below St. Louis.

In anticipation of this flood potential, the North Central River
Forecast Center has opted to increase the future time of forecast
rainfall used in forecasts for the Meramec, the Kaskaskia, and the
main stem Mississippi river basins from 24 hours to 72 hours
until further notice. In addition, the Lower Mississippi River
Forecast Center has increased the future time of forecast
rainfall used in the Black River near Annapolis from 24 hours to
48 hours. You may not see warnings on this forecast guidance until
the certainty of these forecasts is sufficient, but this should
give you some advanced idea of the potential severity of next
week`s flooding.

People in these areas should remain alert for the potential of
significant flooding or flash flooding over the next several days.
