HYDROMETEOROLOGICAL DISCUSSION
NWS ALASKA PACIFIC RIVER FORECAST CENTER ANCHORAGE AK
3 PM AKDT WED MAY 27 2015

...FLOOD POTENTIAL...

THE SOUTHWEST PORTION OF THE STATE HAS EXPERIENCED PERSISTENT RAIN
OVER THE PAST WEEK... WITH SOME AREAS RECEIVING AN ESTIMATED TOTAL
OF 3 TO 4 INCHES. THIS HAS RESULTED IN HIGH WATER LEVELS ON AREA
RIVERS DRAINING THE WOOD RIVER MOUNTAINS OF SOUTHWEST ALASKA... SUCH
AS THE NUYAKUK... NUSHAGAGK... AND WOOD RIVER.

...HYDROMETEOROLOGICAL DISCUSSION...

THE UPPER LEVEL PATTERN THIS MORNING HAS A LARGE RIDGE CENTERED OVER
THE ALCAN... WITH A SMALL LOW CURRENTLY OVER NORTHERN SOUTHEAST
UNDERCUTTING THE RIDGE. THERE IS ALSO A LARGE LOW OVER THE BERING
WITH A TROUGH CONNECTING IT TO DEVELOPING LOW IN THE NORTH PACIFIC.
OVER THE NEXT TWO DAYS THE LOW UNDERCUTTING THE RIDGE WILL MOVE
SOUTHEASTWARD. THE BERING LOW WILL WEAKEN AND MOVE TO THE
NORTHWEST... WITH A PORTION OF THE ENERGY BREAKING OFF AND MOVING TO
THE BROOKS RANGE AND THEN EASTWARD. THIS WAVE WILL BRING MODERATE
TO HEAVY RAIN TO PORTIONS OF THE BROOKS RANGE THURSDAY INTO FRIDAY.
WHILE THIS HAPPENS THE NORTH PACIFIC LOW WILL STRENGTHEN AND MOVE
INTO THE BERING.
