5 Day Ice Discussion...
Low pressure will move northeast toward the central Great Lakes by Tuesday
evening. The low will then track northeast to Nova Scotia by Wednesday
evening. High pressure will follow from the west and build across the
entire Great Lakes by Wednesday night and will move off the northeastern
United States by Friday morning. Another weak area of low pressure will
move east across the lakes Friday and Friday night. High pressure will
build east across the area Saturday.

Ice fields across the entire Great Lakes is beginning to show signs of
breaking apart. Some ice floes are drifting east away from Green Bay into
central Lake Michigan posing a risk to mariners in that area at night.
Ice floes are shifting within the main area of ice in Saginaw Bay, eastern
Lake Huron, and Lake Erie making it difficult to keep tracks open. Winds
are expected to increase over Lakes Huron and Erie tonight and continue
Tuesday into Wednesday morning from the southwest. This will cause
considerable shifting of the ice floes and the development of ridging and
rafting of the floes. Once again, tracks will likely close-up during the
next 36 hours and posing a risk for mariners for entrapment. Lighter winds
are expected across Lakes Michigan and Superior.

The mild temperatures expected tomorrow and Wednesday across Lakes Huron
and Erie will aid in deteriorating the ice fields at a rapid pace. Slow to
no ice deterioration is expected over the western lakes where temperatures
are expected to remain at or below freezing.
