...Water levels are high and may approach or exceed bankfull at the
following rivers or creeks: Looking Glass River at Eagle...Flat
River at Smyrna...Pere Marquette River at Scottville...
Prolonged cold temperatures the next few days will continue to form
river surface ice. Ice jams are likely occurring along the following
rivers. Significant flooding is not expected but rivers may exceed
their banks and produce some minor impacts in low lying areas. Ice
jams can cause quick fluctuations in river levels. The following
forecast is based on observed and forecast 48 hour precipitation...
as well as expected ice jam behavior.
For the Looking Glass River Near Eagle... the latest stage was 4.3
feet at 2 PM Wednesday. No flooding is forecast. The maximum stage
forecasted is 4.9 feet tomorrow morning. Bankfull stage is 5.0 feet.
Flood stage is 7.0 feet.
For the Flat River Near Smyrna... the latest stage was 5.3 feet at 1
PM Wednesday. No flooding is forecast. The maximum stage forecasted
is 5.7 feet this evening. Bankfull stage is 5.5 feet. Flood stage is
For the Pere Marquette River Near Scottville... the latest stage was
3.9 feet at 2 PM Wednesday. No flooding is forecast. The maximum
stage forecasted is 4.1 feet after midnight tonight. At 4.0 feet...
river is bankfull... and overflow of low lying areas adjacent to the
river occurs. Flood stage is at 5.5 feet.
