Hydrologic Statement
National Weather Service Grand Rapids MI
835 PM EST Fri Feb 16 2018

The following forecasts are for rivers in Southwest Lower Michigan...

.Water from snow melt that occurred during a mid-week warm-up will
continue running off into rivers through the end of the week. This
may cause water levels along the Grand River near Ionia and the Maple
River near Maple Rapids to reach above bankfull Saturday night into
Sunday. Significant flooding is not expected, but water and ice may
spill into low-lying areas along the river. Additional precipitation
through the weekend will fall as light snow Saturday night, and will not
contribute to runoff. Ice jams are also still occurring on area rivers,
and may cause fluctuations in water levels.

Widespread rainfall of between 1 and 2 inches and warmer temperatures
early next week will create a greater risk for river flooding, and will
need to be monitored very closely.

The forecasts below are based on 48 hour precipitation through Sunday
evening, and do not take into account rain that is forecast Monday
and Tuesday.

For the Grand River At Ionia... the latest stage was 13.1 feet at 8
PM Friday. No flooding is forecast. The maximum stage forecasted
is 14.8 feet early Thursday morning. Flood stage is 21.0 feet.

For the Maple River At Maple Rapids... the latest stage was 5.2 feet
at 8 PM Friday. No flooding is forecast. The maximum stage
forecasted is 7.5 feet Wednesday morning. Flood stage is 9.0 feet.
At 7.0 feet... River is bankfull. Expect minor flooding in low lying
pastures, farmland, and wooded areas adjacent to the river..

Safety message...Caution is urged when walking near riverbanks.
